Ok so now that I am using homemade soap, dish soap and laundry. I thought I better not use chemicals to clean anymore. I am already using vinegar to clean kitchen. So I got some baking soda and salt and went to clean tub. Mostly it was the salt but wow, we have hard water and that salt took to that and just with a light scrub of a brush off it comes. Normally I am in there with bleach and my arms hurt from scrubbing so hard and the smell but not today- no smell and very light scrubbing and it looks brand new, so shiny and smooth. Oh and my hands feel like I used a loofah on them they are so soft!

Isn't it amazing?! The Chemical companies convince use we need some super cleaner for our houses. Even in the commercials it shows the models wearing gloves because the cleaners are so caustic! And then it turns out the organic way cleans better! I laugh now whenever I watch those commercials. This coming from a girl that used to pursue cleaning chemicals like crazy because nothing ever worked the way it claimed!

I forgot to say I used Sea Salt, not sure if that makes a difference but just so you know. My bath is smooth so for a textured bath you might have to scrub harder.

I always use a window squeegey on my shower/bathtub walls and doors after a shower (I dont wipe the soap holder) to dry and then use a micro terry towl to dry off the fawcet handles and door chrome. I have not cleaned my shower since Jan 08. I have however cleaned the bottom shower pan.

Jessie- I think a pumice stone would work best for the toilet. Try emptying the water from the bowl and scrubbing with the stone - that *should* do the trick. -Elizabeth |

So, this salt thing I will try!!! And the vinegar!
So what do you all think of those "simply green" cleaners from clorox? I see that they say 'natural' on them....but not organic...

I have not tried it in the potty yet, jesse if you do let me know. We use our brush and vinegar and that works so far.

I just cleaned the tub with a paste mixture of salt and baking soda.....and holy cow!!! It blinds me when I walk into the bathroom now!!! The textured shower floor needs a bit harder srubbin though. But that's cool. I liked that the bathroom didn't smell like a chemical factory when I was through....
I will recommend to everyone I know!!!

Not only does it not smell like a chemical factory- but there is usually a undefinable "Freshness" in a room cleaned with baking soda- It absorbs odors! So sometimes there are lingering odors that we don't realize and it scrub and absorbs them away. I love baking soda and salt. They are awesome cleaners!
