Love both of them! Are you using a pattern?

I never use a pattern for most my hats. I just make the circles big as i want and then start descreasing sharply down. The bigger the circle --the more the beret look to the hat. Some i like to have the circle part wavy --like the one with the brim.

I'm trying to learn to crochet. Right now I'm working on dishclothes & how to do the granny square...I would love to be able to make a scarf! One day...one day...

I gotta have something to do while i recover from the chemical poisoning. It gives me something to do when i wake up. Here is the one today .Helps to have wild dreams from the chemicals --I dreamed about being a gnome last night . SOOOO ... I desided i am gonna be a "purple gnome " this halloween. Here is my hat. I already have a long purple vest. Just need to make purple pants and a white flowy renaissance shirt to complete it. I actually had started to make a crocheted witch hat but i liked this . It is really tall . The thickness of using 2 yarns is what keeps it standing up. I did not use a patern --just free form crochet. Not bad for my first one Hopefully i can stay out of bed tomorrow and go for a drive.I am going crazy staying home .

The hat is about 18 inches tall. It was alot of fun to make. The poisoning was on a new job I had taken as a janitor at a hospital. They didnt give proper chemical equipment to me for a job i was doing and it poisoned me.I have never been this sick in my life. I am alot better --The worst of it was monday when it made me pass out --dont remember monday actually or last weekend either . I worked and drove home somehow and then passed out Monday. It is thru my system now. Thank the goddess i was only there right about 3 weeks. I am going back to doing home health maybe next week. Kinda ironic --i took the job as an entry level so i could move to a better position soon as it opened. The job had benefits and insurance and all --which i have never ever had . Guess they werent worth it after all :) So i am getting LOTS of crochet time in this week. Gotta look at the bright side of it all.

Thanks Tribalcime & TabithaLenox!

I guess I just need the practice because my rows aren't always even, so my disclothes aren't exactly "square". I think I have too much tension. Oh that sounds funny, after re-reading it! I don't know if it's me with the yarn or just my life in general, haha!

If you get a chunky yarn and use a large crochet hook (size N or larger) it won't matter if your rows are straight...an open stitch like double crochet will disguise those tension problems and you'll be happy with your new scarf!

Thanks TabithaLenox! I was just wondering if I tried something like the double stitch if it would help! I will have to try the chunky yarn too!

You're welcome! It will open up a whole new experience for you in crochet. It's fast and easy...and I love the bulky/chunky yarns.
