That's exactly right- it is hard work. So much so that my husband is VERY hesitant to have animals here- even though we are in the country. He has always told the kids what a BIG full time responsibility animals are. We have had a pig- to raise for slaughter. Chickens several times- and will get a new batch of hens in springtime- and always dogs. He was raised working on ranches- big ranches. And he raised numerous animals, including cows that he milked BY HAND, before school everyday! I was raised in big cities- Houston,Corpus Christi and Salt Lake City!
I still want animals but there's no budging him.

Blessings,
Autumn

Hi checkin in, been a bit absent lately, finishing up this weekend hopefully. Yes I want all the animals as well. Eventually, need to stop poppin kids out so I can feel safe around the big animals. I love the fresh eggs though, hmmm....my sis last year really had a wildly huge collection of chickens, she got the occaisionally dirty egg, but for the most part they were all really clean...I will have to ask her bout that.

In my fantasy world, I'd have animals....chickens, beef cattle, milk cow and a horse. Of course I'd be there taking care of them all! In my real world - not possible. However it is nice to dream.

Speaking of dreaming...do you just LOVE the Omlette Hotel in the magazine? I had to download the instructions. It's on my to-do list. DH had a laugh too, followed by "Not bad" which I took as a ringing endorsement. Whee! But it will just have to wait until we move ON to the farm. Chickens aren't so practical 6 miles away, and even though the coop is as cute as can be, I don't think it would go over well with the neighbors here in town.

Jessica,
Sometimes the eggs would have chicken poop on them. Yes they washed off and were perfectly good. I guess I was just a little grossed out. My daughter never had a problem with it. She would scramble them up and eat them with.
The calfs when I was younger... my brother set me straight as to why they were in small pens and eating the milky oatmeal. They were to be turned into veal! Oh boy, I was stupid as a child. I would end eat roast beef for a while either. But hambergers were no problem.
When you only go to the supermarket for your food you never think about where they realy get the meat and eggs from.

Well ladies, I have received another set of blocks saturday, Thank you Sheila. The look great. This is going to be a very nice looking wall hanging or lap quilt or maybe even a table covering.

My blocks are on their way. Sorry. I had them finished but getting to the PO is a big deal for me and not so easy. But it's taken care of. Hope I'm not too late.
