During the civic war they made handkerchief dolls for the girls at church to keep them quiet.

My Mother could fold a hankie to make it look like a baby in a hammock. It always amazed me but never learned how. I took 4 hankies and made my then 6 month old grand daughter a slip for under her easter dress.

I saw a bedskirt done with vintage hankies. The hankies were tacked down on a bedskirt that had been made from muslin - no ruffles - just straight to show off the hankies

I've seen them framed between two pieces of glass in a simple wood frame and put together as a grouping on a wall in a bedroom and it was beautiful. I have a couple of aprons made with floral hankies and they are unique. I'm sure they were Sunday aprons. They were quite fancy. Too pretty to use.

I just learned in Omaha at the crazy quilt retreat, how to make small wall hanging quilts using hankies, I am so excited, but havent got to many hankies. so Im trying to find some that arent to expensive to use. We made one in class ,but the instructor had kits made for us.
Anyone have any ideas where to get old hankies. I could use some sources
Thanks
Shirley

I just love these ideas! My grandmother gave me a special blue-lined hanky that was hers for my wedding too! Yay for grandmothers. :) I should frame it so it's ready for my own granddaughter some day. :) Unless my daughter needs it...I better go get my mom one. :)

We make a difference.

I've been tryin' to dream up a way that I can make mine into a quilt without doing too much damage to them..... Maybe make a base quilt and then carefully tack down the corners... hmmmm......
