Our county fair was last week and there was a raffle for a 2 yr. old colt. Proceedes went to a lady with cancer so I bought 6 tickets for $10. Got the call tonight saying we won the raffle!!! I'm so excited, we never win anything and this little guy is so cute. He is a little light brown bay with a white spot on his forehead. His name is Sheffield Shaw, which is fitting because there was a town here awhile ago called Sheffield and the road is named that too.
He's from a neighboring ranch. We'll get him tomorrow.. Did I say how excited I am?!?!

Congratulations! Anytime we go someplace that has any kind of 4 legged prize my hubby won't let me put in tickets because he's afraid I'd win...LOL!

Well, he's just a regular quarter horse, just a ranch gelding. I think the ranch might have some particular blood lines they use but nothing special.. His registered name is Sheffield Shaw, I suppose for now we can call him Shaw, I'm not really sure will have to get to know him better to change his name. I will be naming him that's for sure, I name all the other critters, hubby gets the kids to name, hee hee.
I was thinking last night that I would like to do most of his training, but I have never done that.. I'll just do the gentling I suppose, I tried that with our other colt. I'll let my hubby get bucked off :) |

Congrats to you!
We were at our annual rodeo Friday night and they were selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a horse. We wisely kept our hands in our pockets and walked wide circles around any ticket sellers.
So far, in the past two years, we've "green broke" two horses without any damages. We're big fans of Clinton Anderson (he's so cute) and his training methods. They've really worked well for us with both a Thoroughbred gelding and a little Paint filly.

Congratulations. Sounds like he's headed for a great home. Did they tell you how much money was raised for the woman with cancer? I hope she comes out of it okay.
We make a difference. |

elisese my sis and i green broke my first horse, a little arab stallion, named serazz, without him bucking once! sadly she got pg and i couldnt finish him alone (our only fenced are was a barbed wire fence!) so i sent him to a trainer for 3 months. when i got him back she had ruined him! he would have made a great rodeo horse! i was so upset. we moved out of state that winter and sold him and our mare with tack, for less than what we paid for either horse! the last i heard was that he had gone thru 3 owners real quick and the 4th retrained him and he was a childrens babysitter! i was so happy for him! just take lots of time with the ground work and go very slowly with the tack and mounting. you can do it! YOU GO GIRL! peace connie in alaska |
