My green pepper plants have aphides. Is there any organic or home remedy I can make and spray on them. I have lost one and another one is not looking to good.

Thanks for the help.

I was told you could first try spraying them off with your hose. I did this with our brusselsprouts and it seemed to work after a couple of times. JoAnn

I haven't had much luck with anything, we only use organic or homemade remidies. I had to sacrifice 2 cauliflower plants to the chicken to help rid the garden of them. Keep me posted on if you find the answer.

Thanks everyone for the help. Last night I sprayed under the leaves with just a mix of dish soap and water...Didn't think It would hurt. I haven't been out today yet to see if it helped. We are in transition with our little farm. We live about 5 miles away and make trips twice a day to tend the garden and care for the chickens. We are waiting for permits to set up a mobile home ( cottage). So anyway I'll be checking on then soon.

Rebecca, I do the very thing for aphids on my roses (same little guys)...a mix of vege oil, water and dishwashing liquid, sprayed on daily will smother them and eventually kill off all the aphids. Repeat treatment is usually necessary so just make it part of your daily routine.

I use old dishwater that I spay on my lupines every year. It kills them (aphids) almost instantly. You can actually see them change color from green or beige to gray as it kills them. You do have to do it daily for a while as more will move in to take over where the dead ones left off.

Marly, aphids are extremely small bugs usually green or beige in color that hang out on the undersides of leaves and around new growth. They suck the life out of your plants and they do it pretty quick.

Wow...some great Ideas. I hand wash my dishes so always have dish water. Great way to use it up. I'm going to add some oil to my soap mix and keep spraying. Jonni how much oil and what kind do you add in?

I used a tiny bit of dishwashing soap and water in a spray bottle with my roses when they had aphides and it worked... now being that it's a pepper plant..I'm not sure, but this worked for me and as you can see for all of us ..LOL

This was the recipe that Tina gave to me and it worked very well. I simply used the store brand vege oil (liquid form) from the grocer. Cheaper, anyway. I used the dishwashing liquid I had on hand--Palmolive, I think :)

"basically 2 teaspoons of soap, 2 teaspoons oil in a garden spray bottle will work..and just fill it up with water and shake and spray..."
