I hate aerosal sprays! Not just because they have nasty things in them, but because they are overpowering and really don't smell that great. So, I created my own that not only freshens, but isn't harmful.
To make your own air sprays, save a pump spray bottle, like an empty body spray bottle, (re-use). Pour in distilled water, add several drops of essensial oil, my favorite is Rose. Shake and spray as needed. It really works great!

Hey neat, I will have to try that I am so allergic to smells (they give me headaches) I can pick something my sniffer won't mind. Thanks Karen

julia .. will the 'alcohol' hurt furniture or fabric if it lands on it? gosh .. i'm sure the commercial ones have more harmful stuff than that in it though!

Frannie, I haven't noticed any problem with furniture and such. It disipates fairly quickly.

Txfarmgal and GA Girl, I appreciate your verses, a couple of my favorites!

hey Erin,
Where did you get MJ's recipe for linen spray? I use stuff like that when i am ironing fabric for sewing and the fabric always has a nice scent. That would be great to make my own. thanks for the info Beverley

Welcome to the group FaithIrene!! I pass right by the Young Living farms each time I go "to town" up north...once every month or two..it is about an hour north of us. I once went to a Young Living aromatherapy demo thing here in town..pretty neat stuff.
I love making (and buying!!) linen spray too...and love lavender the best!!I will have to use it for room spray too.

Hi, Beverley! The recipe for linen water is in MaryJane's book on page 381. I don't have the book handy, or i'd copy it for you. Anyone else?

Oh...Julia,

One more thing...I love your quote and have experienced that very thought several times this summer. Just this evening I was returning from Mary Janes grand opening and traveling home the sky was pink and grey on blue. I was thanking God for his Majestic Display! Yeah!

I make my own room fresheners as well with alcohol and essential oils. I never use synthetic scents. Not a good idea. So many people have sensitivities with synthetic scents and they are made with petroleum ingredients which are carcinogenic.

My favorite one for the bathroom is tangerine, orange 5x, lemon, lime, litsea and mandarin orange essential oils. Very very fresh. I also spray it on myself at times. The hubby loves it!

Also, try vanilla and lemon EOs. Very good combination. When I spray this on me, I get automatic nuzzling from DH. The vanilla is what men go for.

And don't forget lavender EO to spray the sheets and pillows between washings for a heavenly smell and for drifting off to a peaceful slumber!

I also make one with camphor, eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender and rosemary EOs for air freshening and also to open the sinuses. You can spray it on your clothes, a favorite stuffed animal for the little ones when they are sick, on a hankie....it really works well.

At Christmas time, I make one with fir needle, spruce, pine and orange for people to spray on their fake trees, in the office, where ever for a Christmasy scent.

One lady came up to my farmers market booth on Saturday and wanted a spray with tea tree and patchouli. I have both, but smelling them both together made me want to gag. I don't like tea tree. It smells like floor cleaner to me.

I use alcohol instead of water because the water wets things like clothes, furniture, whatever it lands on. My personal opinion is that water is ok for my skin, but not on my furniture. Alcohol dries out quickly and I have never once had a problem with staining clothes or furniture. Just keep it off wood surfaces, of course.

Hey girls, glad I could help. I just recently thought distilled water might be worth trying instead of the alcohol. I also want to make some lavender water as well as rose water.

Karen, glad you like the quote. We have had some gorgeous sunsets the past few nights. They remind me that God is still on the throne, no matter the circumstances.

You can mix the distilled water and alcohol together or use straight alcohol. You can also buy 91% isopropyl alcohol - I get it at Walgreens. Vodka also works well as long as you're using it for personal use.

I too would love the receipe for MJ's airfreshner. I am trying to get away from all the store bought stuff and chemical stuff. But it's going to be a gradual change seeing that I need receipes for everything!
Thanks!

FaithIrene,
I too pass by the young living farm store and haven't stopped in. I have essential oils at home and am always looking for ways to use them. I will make your recipe, and maybe even some for Christmas gifts. Thanks,

I changed my christmas pine spray this season to black spruce, pine, black pepper, orange and just a smidge of frankincense essential oils. Its selling really well for me.

I love the spray bottle idea. I'm so lazy, I've just been putting a drop of lavender EO on a cloth and swipe down the inside of the toilet lid, inside of trash cans, etc. Places that the oil won't stain or hurt. The whole room smells great and it covers any odors in the smelliest areas of the house.

I'd like to be able to spray it around though. Good idea.
