I received my bill online for the electricity and I have problem dried 5 loads of laundry all last month. The rest was all solar dried and I saved $25. I don't even have a clothesline. I just lay everything on the porch in the sun for about 30 minutes and it is dry!!! I am so excited.

Girl, I've been using my MIL's clothesline for the last month, DH is working on my T posts at work, and I love it. Somethings I still electric dry, but jeans, towels, sheets--heavy items--go on the line. So, now it only takes me 25 minutes to electric dry a load of laundry b/c all the heavy things are soakin' up the sun! It is so exciting!!

I line dry everything, unless dh needs work clothes in a hurry. It saves us a BUNDLE. I've heard that dryers are one of the greatest energy users that there are.

Ha!!! I Love the fact that the Texas gals are getting good use of all this hot hot weather!!! HA!!! I only dried things that I forgot in the washer and really needed and one load got caught in a downpour while I was out. I also found my clothes are lasting longer now.

I love my clothesline. I dry everything out there but underclothes. Those I throw in the dryer and it only takes 20 minutes to dry them all. It has saved a ton on the electric bill. I just started using vinegar for a softener and while clothes are still not as soft as the dryer (of course) they are much better than without it. The clothes don't smell like vinegar and it's super cheap!

I wanted a clothesline so bad so I put an eye bolt in the house and strung a rope from it to a tree. It looks like is going to hold and I love it! I can't wait to hang my sheets up to dry!

I use mine all the time in the spring/summer and fall. I figure I give enough money to Xcel Energy for heating in the winter.
I am saving it in the summer!
My bill was around fifty bucks for this month. 35 of it is for the service plus program. The rest was for whatever. I should look to see if I even used the minimum?

Hey Heather, I am with you,,,,why throw wet jeans in the dry to spend 40 minutes to dry when you can take advantage of the suns "free drying power"!

I'm with you, girls. I love hanging stuff out to dry. Does anything smell so good as freshly dried sheets, just off the line? I even dry my towels on the line - they are kind of rough and stiff the first time they're used, but after that they're just fine.
Oh! That reminds me - did anyone hear the story on the news the other day about the teenage girl who felt something moving inside her bra (yes, she was wearing it!). She checked, and there was a baby bat that had burrowed its way into the padding of her bra. BLECH!

| When I was a teenager, I used to always put my bikini on the line & one night I was going for a late night swim, went to the line to get my bikini & grabbed what I though to be my top, the way it was hanging(in the dark) It was a bat!!! YIIIKKEESS!!!!! Luckily it flew off & didn't bite me. I would've hated those rabies shots. Should've opted for the skinny dipping that night I suppose. |

I'm with you girls -- I dry everything on the line, except for my husband's uniforms. I love what the sun does to my baby's cloth diapers -- no stains at all! I do put the dry diapers in the dryer for 5 minutes, though, otherwise they're a little too crunchy for my baby's tender backside!

I've always hung out clothes, weather permitting, even in the winter on the sunny days. I have 3 drying racks I can use on rainy days or really cold days. I love hanging out clothes. It brings back childhood memories. My mother believed that everything had to be hung just so-so. What would the neighbors think if you didn't follow clothes-hanging-etiquette?????

Since we did that clothespin exchange last year, and we bought the clothesline, I've saved so much. Our electric company shows a grid comparing usage for the same month this year and last, and I kid you not, the first month I used the clothesline shows I used HALF the electricity compared to the previous year. The only changes were the clothesline and a new water heater, which has to be more efficient (though I'd love to go for the at-the-source heaters and be rid of the tank too).

Yea! I finally got my line up and have used it for to days and have loved every minute of it. Has anyone got a clothes line inside for bad weather? I'd love to know what type you have? Karen

I have been lazy this summer, I haven't used my clothesline at all but I promise I will next time I wash laundry, I just don't like the stiffness, anyone have any ideas how to get the stifness out or not happen at all?

On another thread there was a suggestion to add vinegar to the wash to take out the stiffness. I think the thread was called "cruchy towels" or something. Another suggestion was to cut back on or change the type of soap you use.

| How well would clothes dry in Tennessee when we are having high humidity? Today it's at 60%,and 88-90 degrees, tomorrow it maybe higher. |

I just started hanging stuff out to dry after a loooooong abscense. I just love it! It's one of the things I look forward to each day, it's so peaceful and I can lost in my thoughts out there! I have a great retractable line that my hubby strung up between the barn and the chicken coop twelve years ago when we moved here. It's one of those five line numbers and still works like a charm after all these years, and I can put it away when I'm done so no one snags themselves on the line running across the yard or mowing. I especially love to hang out the heavy stuff like the towels and jeans. I soften the towels up in the drier for about 10 minutes before I put them away, but they smell wonderful. I was always struggling to get smells out of my towels, but no more. Jeans come out like they're pressed. I usually give them a quick toss in the dryer as well, but only if I have time. Now I'm running the dryer less than an hour a week, a fraction of what I used to. I also found out I can smooth out wrinkles in knit clothing by misting them with a spray bottle of water (sometimes I add a few drops of essential oil to make them smell yummy) and brushing them over with my hand.
