Had three Banana's that were pretty ripe so made a loaf of bread, having a hard time staying away from it. already had one piece warm with butter on. I was noting that everything in the main picture are from either the thrift or yard sales.

Nancy-Jo now why did you have to go and make my stomach growl like that? I may just have to walk down to the neighborhood store and see if they have some past their prime banana's. Mine are no where near ready for bread.

Nancy Jo...you are inspiring to say the least! LOVE your pcitures and they make me want to "spruce up" my place! I wish you could come over and help me decorate! What neat things you get on your outings...really cool stuff! I did make a blueberry cobbler/pudding yesterday and it was YUMMO...warm with ice cream of course! I have a little sweet tooth so I always have to have a dessert for after supper and this one hit the spot! I planted blueberry bushes this Spring but I couldn't wait for them to produce so I have a great recipe for Art Smith (Oprah's chef) that uses frozen (thawed) berries of any type and it is so easy to make. If anyone wants it I will post here later....I am just having my morning coffee and the typing is hard enough until I get going! LOL!
And I did not know there was a prequel book to Anne of Green Gables....I love that book! And your magazines...I am the same way...VERY self-disciplined....when they come in the mail I wait until evening so I have something to look forward too! I bet your house is just darling and homey and cozy! Keep the pictures coming....it is better than a magazine!

A piece of banana nut bread, warm with butter, looks better than a box of cereal ANY day! I wish we were like Star Trek, and you could just 'beam me' a piece. ;)

Okie dokie....I'm awake now....here's the recipe...this is from Art Smith's Kitchen Life cookbook. I have his other book, Back to the Table also and they are both excellent...everything I make of his tastes great! And not a lot of fancy ingredients either most of the time...anyway, he was or is Oprah's chef but from the South originally and a lot of his recipes are from his relatives...handed down..I HIGHLY recommend his cookbooks and he may have another one out also..if you know tell me....I'd but it in a heartbeat! Hope I don't get sued for doing this but here goes....
Baked Berry Pudding (also known as a "buckle")

1 1/4 lbs. fresh or thawed frozen blackberries, blueberries, or raspberries (I actually found some frozen mixed berries which worked really good!)
1/3 Cup granulated sugar
1 Cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar (I'm not prejudiced...I use any color I have around)
1 large egg at room temperature (I know there's a good reason for the room temp but I never have done it with one and it turns out fine...I'm not very patient with eggs I guess)
5 tablespoons (1/2 stick plus 1 tablespoon) unsalted butter, melted (again...I use what I have...no biggy)
1/2 cup whole milk (I used 2% and it was fine)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:
1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees and lightly butter a 2 1/2 quart dish. (I astually use a 3 quart casserole dish)
2. Mix the berries and the granulated sugar in the baking dish.
3. Sift flour, baking soda and salt together and set aside.
4. Beat the brown sugar and egg together in a medium bowl with an elctric mixer on high until the mixture is thick and the sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes.
5. On low speed mix in the melted butter, flour, milk, and vanilla. Spred the batter over the fruit with a rubber spatula (or a spatulaR if you're Paula Deen)
6. Bake until the juices are bubbling and the topping springs back when pressed in the center, about 40 minutes, or until the top is evenly golden brown. Serve warm.

I have to have mine with ice cream on top and after I refrigerate it I still put it in a bowl and heat it up in the microwave before I top it with ice cream...I'm SO BAD!)
This is so eacy and turns out great every time....enjoy Girlfriends!

The buckle sounds delish. I love all the variations on a theme - buckles, slumps, grunts, cobblers, pandowdy, crisps. These are my favorite desserts.
