A while back I read Aunt Em's question about learning to farm. I, too, am an 'advanced beginner' and have done some research on learning the basics of farming. We've gone through several classes through LSU Ag Center, including the Master Cattle, Farmer and Poultry classes. I recently came across a program called Annie's Project, and it bills itsef as "Annie's Porject is designed to empower farmwomen to manage information systems used in critical decision making processes and to build local networks throughout the state. The target audience is farmwomen with a passion for business and involvement." I think I've got a handle on the gardening, cattle and other animal management, weaving, even laundry and home maintenance, but I KNOW I don't really have a handle on running a farm as a business. This sounds like an interesting concept, and was wondering if there are any farmgirls out there who have actually participated in one of these seminars? If so, was it helpful? There isn't one offered here in Louisiana, but I've asked Donnie, on of the AG Center extension agents if it would be a possibility. Any thoughts, ideas or comments?

Indiana and Kentucky both offer the program. I have not participated in the actual classes, but obtained all of the class materials from a very kind extension agent in KY. After reviewing all of the information I would recommend the class to everyone. I'm just sorry that I haven't had the opportunity to participate in the actual classes.

I taught several yearly classes thru the Colorado State Ag Program. It was wonderfull to share with those who where making the change - The subjects I taught where organic livestock management, Niche Fiber Marketing and How to use Networking in the Country. I wish you great adventures and hope you find some mentors in your area. If there was anything I could do to assist please let me know.

Thanks, y'all! I've been talking to an Extension Agent here, hoping to get one of these programs available through LSU. I hope it pans out, as I'll be one of the first enrolled! Grace, thanks for offering your assistance. I'll let you know if I need anything!
