It is 4.09 here. Yesterday we were filling our tank before going out of town for Father's day. There was actually a lady with a big can walking around, begging everyone for some gas. She approached everyone there, and most people gave her money. Later, in the town we went to, I saw someone standing by a gas station with a sign that said "Empty", begging for gas/money as well.

3.93 here in South Central KY. Girls, with the high gas prices, we will get high food prices. We better be making the best out of summer gardens. I heard my grandma and grandpa talk about hard times...we may be headed there again.

Here in western NC it is running about $4.03 for regular and then +10 for each step in grade. Diesel is running $4.88 at the cheapest in town.

I saw one station had regular for $3.99/gallon the other day. It seems to depend on the station, because the one up the road was $4.09....
But remember when diesel used to be cheaper?? Now it's upwards of $5.00+/gallon!!! I'm really worried about this, since the truck pulling my moving trailer is diesel... *sigh*

Last week we had to go from our little farm in Beryl (about 45 miles west of Cedar City) to Salt Lake. The total round trip was just over 600 miles.
We filled up in Enterprise at $4.09.
Along the way up I15 we saw prices that ranged from 3.91 up to 4.16. Our fill up in Sandy at the Maverick was 3.99/gal and we spent 82.01. Bev couldn't stop the pump fast enough to land on 82 even.
Yeah, we drive a Chevy Avalanche that average 17 mpg.
Around here, we have to go into town 3 times a week for work, but beyond that, the vehicles don't move. That includes an old Ford Ranger (full size) farm pickup, Mom's Chevy Blazer and the Avalanche.
Since we're 17 miles from "town" and either 45 or 67 miles away from Cedar City and St.George, we wait until we can combine a number of errands.
Thankfully, Bev drives the Senior Citizen bus, and Mom and I are "seniors", so twice a month we can hop on the bus to St. George to do major shopping. You should see what gets hauled on that bus!

Went to 4.07 over the weekend but it came down a couple of pennies to 4.03
I heard the same thing about the 4th, Audrey. And today my son told me he heard it could be as high as $8 by Christmas.

$8 by Christmas?! I guess it's inevitable... but who can really afford that? I would really like to just know what they're thinking. Do they think that since we rely on it so much that we'll just remain quiet and take it with a grain of salt as the prices rise to unearthly levels? Don't they see that this could KILL our economy? If people can't afford to drive, they don't make it to work. If people don't work, our unemployment stats will sky rocket. When people are unemployed, it weakens the economy.
Seriously, what are they thinking....

I know I couldn't believe it. The last I heard about est. cost of gas by the holidays was $6. I keep thinking about our ancestors that lived through the Great Depression. I wonder if we could survive somehting like that today.

If this generation could survive something like the Great Depression?? That's a scarey question. My daughter and I were talking about that on the phone the other day. I was telling her that when her grandmother was a young girl during the depression , her family went back to the grandparents farm to live along with other aunts, uncles and cousins. That's how they survived.Today, families are spread across the country and few have a family farm to live on if needed to, nor would they even know how to live of the land. So yes, that is a scarey question. Our gas prices are still holding at 3.69 gal. Don't know why (just glad it is for now), but in OKC it's around 3.98.

We've talked about this very thing - families living together. If things keep going like they that may be the only way we can survive. Gas went up 9 cents since Saturday - now $4.33 a gallon.

Times sure are getting tougher! Gas here in Upstate NY is $4.19 a gallon as of yesterday, today it's proberly even higher! With increasing food prices, gas and utilities it's getting harder to make even the basic ends meet, hubby and I are already wondering if we'll have to make a choice between paying our school taxes in Sept. or filling the oil tank for winter heating! We're worried about what lies ahead!

Happy thoughts, happy thoughts!! I bought gas for $3.93 yesterday in Mt. Vernon, OH. I'm just thankful that out home is set up to burn wood this winter and I'm planning on canning a lot this year. It's still pretty tight on the budget though. Oh yes, has anyone noticed the surcharges on different bills? Our trash collector is charging and extra $12.31 for fuel

$4.39 in Kent, WA approx 15 miles South of Seattle. Staying home and working in the garden as much as possible...trying to make a full tank last longer. Maybe we'll camp on our property and stay home this Summer in protest! |
