Well...just got contacts!! The first day was great!! Then I couldn't get them in or out for the life of me! Then I tore the darn thing in half! I was gonna get my new glasses but everyone swears it just takes a while to get the hang of it!!! I'm not sooo sure!
anyway...have new trial pair gonna give it another shot! anyone else have trouble?

I've been wearing them since I was 17, Mima (I'm 34 now)....couldn't stand to NOT wear them! I'm just not a fan of glasses, especially with all the outdoor work I do, and how humid it is here in the summer. Makes me feel yucky.
There are soooo many different lenses out there. I just, last week, got fitted for new lenses and like them. They're made of silicone and a bit "thicker" because I was having the same problem with the weekly throw aways. These are a monthly throw away and keep their moisture nicely. Haven't had any issues and have had them a week now. I have allergies and work on a computer all day, and found that the thinner lenses bothered me a lot, and were so dry by the end of the day that I was always tearing or scratching them.
If those don't work for you, get another type. Just speak up, because they're your eyes and you have to wear them :)

I bet you'll get used to them! I had an awful time at first - even tore one at the eye doctor's office. But after a few weeks I was popping them in and out with no problems.

I've worn soft contacts for YEARS too and they can be a real pain sometimes. I HATE wearing glasses-- it's like my face suddenly becomes a MAGNET and everyone and EVERYTHING hits me right in the face!
One thing is, you have to be really gentle with them and not Squeeze them too much when putting them in or taking them out. Also, long (or jagged) fingernails can also easily tear the lenses, especially when you take them out-- been there, done that! I guess you can say there is a bit of an "Art" to it, like learning to drive a stick-shift car when you've only ever driven an automatic! Just be patient, take your time, and, like Jonni said, try out the different options available. You will eventually find the lenses that are a perfect match for you and you won't have any trouble with them at all. I did the exact same thing when I got my first pair. For one thing, you have make sure that you squirt your solution stuff on the lens first. I ripped a lot of pairs because it was too dry.
Remember too, that it may not be you. The trial pairs are made to be flimsy so that you have to buy the regular sturdier kind after the two week or one week trial. Kind of a sales pitch thing. ;)
My hubby had a terrible time with them too! We were buying them 3 boxes at a time just in case.

| I tried to get contacts about 10 years ago. I hate glasses too, and I have to wear mine every waking minute of the day. I didn't have much trouble putting them in and out, but they didn't stay in place in my eyes. The eye doctor told me they were spinning, or moving around. I couldn't see well at all. They were not enthusiastic about finding a solution, and eventually I just gave up. But I've been thinking about trying again this summer. Maybe in the past 10 years, they will have developed something that works for me. And I'm a lot more persistent now about getting what I want from a customer service person. |

Amie, I'd always heard that, too...(about the spinning) and horror stories about a lens getting stuck up under the eyelid. I've honestly never had a problem, and I'm not the most gentle when it comes to lenses, or care of lenses. The only trouble I had was a couple of years back with the fungicide in the Complete solution. I had MAJOR trouble then, and thought about not wearing contacts anymore...but I was back to them as soon as I could wear them. My glasses are nice, they are very "cool" but I still feel yuk in them.

Stick with them, Debi. Practive makes perfect. Make sure they are wet before you put them in, and wet your fingertips with the solution before you try to remove them, too. Wash your hands before you handle them, too. I have gotten them stuck under the eyelid only a couple of times in 20+ years of wearing them, you can get them back intact by rubbing gently on the outside of your lid until you can grasp one edge of the slippery little things. I've only torn a handful over the years as well. You may want to carry your solution (or a sample size bottle) in your purse along with the case and your eyeglasses for a while until you get the hang of it. Good luck; I hope I never have to go back to eyeglasses fulltime!

I loved my contacts once i had gotten used to putting them in and taking them out. I remember crying at the doctors office because i could not hold my eye open while i suck my finger in it! For the first week or so i had to have my sister help me. I could hold still for someone else to do it, i just could not do it myself. But now it's now big deal. I acutlly had glass for the last year or two (they seem lots faster when you have little one's), just got contacts about two weeks ago (again) and had no problem putting them in and taking them out after all that time... You will really enjoy them once you get the hang of it! Kristy |

My youngest daughter is learning to get used to hers...with her bad eyes (one is especially bad) she can't wear the soft ones at all so she has the hard type....so she gets alot of practice taking them in and out but loves them. She has worn glasses since she was in Kindergarten..she will go into 6th grade in August.

Stick w/ it and tough it out. Practice makes perfect.
Be glad you have soft. Hard lenses feel like theres a bolder in your eye and take about a week to fully get used to. soft lenses take parctice both putting in and removing but you can't beat the comfort.
I wear soft to the beach and it's a pain-especially when they roll or get too dry.
I still wear glasses in the evenings
All those surgeries are too final for me. So I'd rather deal w/ this little inconvenience (have been for over 20 years) than have no sight at all |

| i wore the soft contacts years ago and then moved on to disposable when they came into being. now i wear ONE, since my vision has changed: need lenses for far away AND can't wear the lense for close up so i wear a far away/distance lense in only one eye! and yes, it actually works! this is weird, but, ...wash your face and don't put anything on it (make-up or face cream) and then practice with the contacts.....if i forget to put my contact in and have anything on my face, it's like my face is "slippery" and it makes it harder to get my eye open to get the thing in. good luck, i know you'll be able to do it! |
