YES INDEED, I GOT A TICK ON THE BACK OF MY NECK TODAY. LUCKILY I HAD ASKED MY DAUGHTER TO PUT AMMONIA ON MY ITCHY BLACK FLY BITES AND SHE SPOTTED IT. AFTER SHE THOUGHT SHE MIGHT PUKE, SHE LOOKED IT UP ON THE INTERNET. FORTUNATELY IT WAS NOT A LYME DISEASE TICK. THE THRILLS AND THE PERILS OF GARDENING....

Ugh! That just gave me shudders. I am a tick pansy! The few times my dog has gotten one, I have danced about like a crazy woman shouting for my husband to come "GET IT OFF!!!" My dog and husband both look at me like I am lunatic. LOL

omy gosh! I hate thos pesky little critters. If you can believe it...my daughter said there was a spider on the wall so I grabbed a dish towel to give the bug a smoosh. The thing wouldnt smoosh. IT WAS A TICK!!!ON MY WALL!!
I feel for you .. I live in tickville...lol

| When I lived in Minnesota I use to joke my summer hobby was pulling wood ticks off the dog and me. I mean lots of ticks, both kinds. Personally I don't mind ticks. I would take ticks over mossquitos, deer flys or black flys. At least they're silen : ) JoAnn |

Eww. I hate ticks. I've had one so far this year. My son has had four! My sister lives in Florida and has three dogs. Her dogs are loaded with them and in the summer, you find ticks lining the edge of the ceiling and the wall, trying to lay their eggs. Bleah. She needs chickens in her house to get rid of them. lol Ugh. They just make me shudder.

Yes we live in tick haven here. I've had a few and seen a few on the dog already. I'm just grateful that I either see them on me or feel them crawling so I get rid of them quickly.

I found a tick on my upper back about a week ago just after I got out of bed! I could not figure out where it came from but I was able to flush it down the sink, or at least I thought I did. About an hour later it was on the faucet. Just took a bit more water I guess!! Really freaked me out. I work outside a lot andnot really afraid of anything, but something that attaches to your body is a different story!!! Last night my dog (Brichon) suddenly jumped in bed and started scratching and I justed out of bed and turned on the light as he was searching the bed covers for whatever!!!! I could hardly go back to sleep. However, do you deal with these on a pet? If I find one how do I get it off? I am new to the forum, live in an old farm house(102 yrs), retired but still do my own yard work and on 13 acres that a lot of yard work! I love coming here just to read all the connections! I am 62 so a lot of what I read in here is a been there done that kind of thing for me but I also pick up some real good advice (thanks farmgirls!) I am really a city girl(up to age 19) and from then on I have lived in more rural places and especially love it here in this small town in the country. Talk to you all later!

We went camping and horseback riding with our dh and his wife over the Memorial Day weekend and on the way home we stopped at a little roadside cafe for lunch. We were sitting there just talking when all of the sudden my son leaped up on the air, grabbed his stomach, and ran outside. We looked at each other and simultaneously said "Tick". That is the second time he has gotten a tick on his stomach - the first time he discovered it in a restaurant too - we were at our oldest daughter's birthday dinner in Seattle when the same thing happened. I don't know where he got that one - must have ridden up to Seattle with him before it made itself known!!

I do volunteer gardening at the Morton Arboretum. A few weeks ago we had to attend a talk on ticks. The specialist said that it takes 24 hours after the tick bites you to transmit the disease. Be aware that Lyme disease isn't the only thing you can get from ticks. There are several different types of ticks that carry diseases. If you remove a tick and become ill a few weeks later, make sure you mention the tick to your doctor. It may or may not be the cause of your illness, but it could help them make a faster & more accurate diagnosis.

This whole tick talk is making me feel all crawly just hearing about it. I haven't had any ticks so far this year. The kids have had a couple. Hallie told me she found one on her leg earlier today, plucked it off and gave it a good toss somewhere in the yard. She's definately not a sissy girl. Well maybe a little, but only with spiders.
