I'm looking for an Apple Crisp mix to take camping. I would like something that I can add a dry mixture to apples and butter. Any ideas?

We've gotten one at the store (in the produce section) that is pretty much oatmeal, brown sugar and cinnamon for our Girl Scout campouts. You just add melted butter and pour over the sliced apples. I bet a Betty Crocker or Fannie Farmer cookbook would have a recipe.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check both our grocery store and my Betty Crocker cookbook. Though with all the rain, flash flooding, and tornadoes in our area we won't be going camping.:(
But I'll have it for the next trip out.

Here is my favorite recipe for Fruit Crisp adapted for camping or travel. I have made this in the toaster oven many times. You can also make it in small glass dishes for individual servings.

Any Fruit Crisp
4 Cups of fruit
1 Cup of flour (can use 1/2 Whole Wheat)
1 Cup of sugar
1 teaspoon Baking powder
1 Egg or Egg Replacer (or 1 Tablespoon soy flour)
¼ pound of Butter/Margarine (or Vegan Shortening)
2 Tablespoons water

Mix together Flour, Sugar, Baking powder, & Egg Replacer.( If you use the real egg you will just add it later with the water, don't add it to the dry mix) I would put this in a container or freezer bag. (You could add cinnamon if it works with the fruit you plan to use)

Butter your 8inch baking dish (I use the wrapper) put the fruit in the bottom of the dish. Add 2 T of water to your dry mix ( and egg if you are using a real egg) and mix till crumbly. Scatter Flour mix over fruit. Then either drizzle melted butter over the top or I just put little cubes of butter all over the top. Bake at 375 for about 25 minutes

Another method I have used is to use Granola and sprinkle on top of your fruit, then do the butter thing and bake.

Hope these are useful to you.
