Consumer Reports journalist, Doug Podolsky, took a stab at homeopathy in the recent issue of Consumer Reports. Despite over two-hundred years of successful use for a variety of ailments, homeopathy is quackery, according to Podolsky who writes, "Check whether over-the-counter products are labeled homeopathic. If they are, we think you should put them back on the shelf." Podolsky's Consumer Reports piece references a 2005 study indicating homeopathy is ineffective, but he fails to mention the study has since been debunked.Unfortunately, due to the prestige of Consumer Reports, the article has already gone viral, as marketing firms and pharmaceutical companies spread it far and wide in an attempt to snuff competition from the natural health world.

Doug Podolsky would never want to meet me because I could and would tell him a thing or two. I am a true believer that homeopathy has worked well for me over the years and continues to do so. In fact, I would put a name brand back on the shelf rather than the homeopathy one which he thinks we should do. I really don't know what this world is coming to. Susan

I honestly think people still think we are stupid...pardon the bluntness. We are the most educated (in terms of knowing what is out there and going on) when it comes to health, food, medicines yet they still like to scare us like it is the 1950's and we don't know any better.

oh boy.

I can personally attest to homeopathy too! it's about the only thing that'll clear my sinuses if even my neti pot isn't doing the trick. my kids too!!

"they" think there is a need for chemicals along side the plant extracts in medicine. If they'd only realize that it's solely the plants that are needed! The Earth has given us all that is needed to live and breath and be healthy!!

Isn't homeopathy based upon the same principles as mainstream vaccinations? Introduce a substance into the body that will produce the desired effect against an ailment? It is my understanding (I've only lightly researched homeopathy a couple years ago) that a lot of the homeopathic substances could be considered 'dangerous', but they are administered in small enough doses and in proper combinations, so that they simply induce a reaction from the body that assists in overcoming an illness, allergies, whatever it may be.

At least these substances are mostly derived from natural sources, and aren't produced from various chemical compounds, that are often known to have side effects, as in the case of our vaccinations...and last I checked, there's more cases of people having reactions to and dying from vaccines and the complications resulting from the injections than there is from homeopathy.

So if my understanding of all this is even a teeny bit close to correct...umm...which treatments should be considered 'quackery'?? People are too blinded by traditional ways of thinking regarding healthcare. If a doctor doesn't prescribe it, it can't be valid... talk about brainwashed.

The only thing that really bugs me is that herbals aren't regulated. By this I mean you can pick up 4 bottles of the same thing by different companies and they will all say something different as to dosages.

Otherwise, its something I support too. Same for my pets

Wish I could study under an herbalist and learn where to find this stuff in the wild. The pure form is the best in my opinion. (The less hands it passes through, the better i.e. minimal processing.

I took a class ages ago that was like that. The instructor actually took us out hiking, and was helping us identify all the wild plants and herbs that could be used for different things, telling us how to prepare them, store them, etc. It was specifically geared towards using herbs for pets, but the great majority of it all applied for people, too. Maybe you could find something like that? It was just a weekend class, a friend had me go in her place when something else came up for her...

I totally believe in homeopathic medicine. I do think the more you control the ingredients the better you are. However you have to realize that we as consumers have been led to believe that every symptom should be treated with a new "magic" pill. That is why peoples immune systems are shot. You body usually can fight off most illnesses on it's own. They try to scare us into believing if we don't take the pill it might turn into something else. Such as strep throat turning into Scarlet fever. I am with everyone else who thinks that we have the minds and the rights to make our own decisions when it comes to our health and believe me the dr's are not always right.
