Another farmgirl here, shoutin' out to ya from about 15 miles outside the small, quiet, farming community of Philadelphia, PA.
LOL! Okay... I'm definitely a Farmgirl wannabe for now!
Heather (CelticCoyote) told me about these boards though and thought I'd fit right in, urban or not, so here I am! :)
Let's see... what's to tell about yours truly? I have been horse-crazy since the day I was born. I was lucky enough to spend most of my weekends from the time I was about 7 'till my early teens at a riding stable where they kind of "adopted" me so I was able to not only learn to ride but to care for the horses too.
It's been *years* since I was in the saddle though - I hope it's like riding a bicycle because I swear I'll get back some day!
For now I live in a house full of critters and kids. The kids currently number 6: Kyle 16, Kristy 14, Connor 12, Ciaran 11, Corry 5 and Chloe 2 and the pets total... um, 14 I think: 5 cats, 1 dog, 1 rabbit, 1 hamster, 2 budgies, 2 fish, a turtle, and a cricket (which was supposed to be for the turtle but, as is often the case, they decided crickets are friends not food!)
We homeschool, can (though I'm so paranoid about botulism I usually wind up throwing everything except lemon curd out... ) grind grain, bake bread, sew... all the good homey stuff. Er.... that's homey like in home made comforts, not hangin' in the 'hood, though we do lots of that kind of homey stuff too.
I think that's about it, I could warn you that I've got a warped sense of humour, but you've probably already noticed.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Welcome, Kerrie...don't worry about your twisted sense of humor, there are alot of us here that are warped..(umm, meadowlark..is your neck getting red?)Personally I think it is part of farm survival!
Two questions: 1) How does one can Lemon Curd..I love it and have long wanted to can it.
2) How do you keep your kids names straight, especially when you are mad?!

KerrieKerrieKerrie!!! I'm so glad you made it (and finally posted)! And trust me, you sooo don't have to worry about the whole urban thing. I sure as heck don't live on a farm (much to my heartbreak), and besides, as the ladies here will tell you, Farmgirl is a state of mind, not geography! I *know* you've got a lot to offer here, too. I'm still impressed that you grind your own flour, AND find time to do all that sewing amidst all those children...

Good to have you here, girlie!

Kerrie...Welcome! A sense of humor is a very good thing and I hope you find us warm, wacky, witty and wild! Well maybe not THAT wild! We have a good time and share alot of interesting topics, so jump on in ; we love to have fresh voices!

I'm a former PA farmgirl who went to college in the "City of Brotherly Love", lived in Ambler, Chestnut Hill,Yardley and worked in Doylestown. We're across the river in central NJ now so... I guess we are neighbors of a sort!

with a happy heart

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

LOL Diane!! Well... in answer to your question about keeping the names straight, normally the only offence that makes me need to raise my voice to any of them is the red-blooded-irish-boy roughousing that goes on, in the middle of the living room, so I can usually get off easy by shouting "BOYS!!!!!".

I've also posted the recipe I use for Lemon curd on the recipe board. http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2097- hope that link leads you to it.

I'm off for the day to sew some Llama pyjamas... LOL....

Heh Kerrie! Welcome! I grew up in Philadelphia. Where do you live? I currently live in Doylestown, Pa., not that far from you, and I homeschooled my daughter as well (just graduated high school, whew!) Are you originally from Philly? Anyhow, welcome and hope you stay and enjoy this site!
