Hey everyone. I'm Kit. I'm new. Go fig! Ahem ... not too sure where to start? Our little group is trying to grow more of our food. This year was an attempt at a garden. I don't know much about that project because I'm not a gardener. Or a cook, but that's another story. Anyway, we've decided to get some livestock next spring to raise for food. That's where I come in, I'm the critter person. And own the only pickup in the group! Our thoughts are chickens and meat goats next spring. We still have to build suitable structures for them of course and all, but basically I'm here to "listen and learn". I found a local-ish goat breeder that's giving goat school in a few weeks, I plan on going to that.

Anyway, hi ...

Hi Kit and welcome to the boards. I'm fairly new at gardening as well. I've had one the last couple of years but still trying to learn how to deal with the horrible Texas heat and not fry everything mid-summer. There are lots of tips and great info here, I'm sure you will love it here.

Welcome Kit! SOunds like you have a busy place. I love gardening. This year was the first year that I had a 'real' veggie garden. It has done well, all except for the fact that my tomaotes have no flavor. Always something to learn for next time. Glad to have you here. Simply, Julia

Thanks for the welcome y'all ;)

Lonestargal - I've the exact OPPOSITE problem. Trying to grow things without freezing them to death. I'm in Maine. Our growing season is about the length of a hiccup.

We're looking at possibly putting up a greenhouse sometime soon to expand that. We've recently replaced all the old windows with those fancy tilting jobs in the house, so I'm looking at recycling those windows (which are huge!) into that possible project.

And yes, this is a busy place and it's just going to get busier! :P

Hi Kit!!! Welcome!! Your plans sound wonderful. Just keep gardening and you'll learn from trial and error. My daughter has a couple of goats and we all just love them. Look forward to getting to know you!

I'm still hot...it just comes in flashes.

Hi Kit! Another New Englander! I don't know where Mechanic Falls is but I'm SW corner NH an hour from the Vt. border. Cold here too. Luckily critters don't seem to mind the cold. I know you'll love it here - lots of very knowledgable farmgirls........
