Hi Ya'll,
Do any of you have a recipe for Dutch Apple Pie? I have looked in all my cook books and there isn't a one. My daughter suddenly decided she liked apple pie that way. The closest I can come is to just make apple crisp and the topping on that tastes similar to Dutch apple.

A lot of cookbooks don't call it Dutch Apple. It's easier to make than a double crust pie. Just make the filling like you normally would, make a regular pie crust for the bottom of the pie, top it with streusel, and throw it in the oven.

If you are talking about apple pie with a crumb topping, I have two excellent pie recipes.

French Apple Pie:

4 large tart apples pared and sliced into eighths
1 unbaked pie crust
1/2 c. sugar
1 t. cinnamon

Mix sugar and cinnamon together and toss apples in it. Place into pie crust.

1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. flour
1/3 c. butter.

Mix sugar and flour together and cut butter in till crumbly. sprinkle over apples. Bake @ 400 for 40-50 min.

This next recipe is otherwise called "pay the rent" pie because our good friends who rented to us exacted a pie from us several times a year with our rent. The Crust if very good and can be used with other pies and there will be plenty leftover for pie crust cookies.

Fish Market Apple Pie:

Pastry:

1 and 3/4 c. flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. salt
2/3 c. butter
1/4 c. very cold water

Mix dry ingredients. cut in butter. add water gradually and roll out into pie pan. (Makes more than 9" pie crust.

Filling:

Mix until smooth:

1 egg
1 and 1/2 c. sour cream
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. flour
1 t. vanilla
1/2 t. salt

Peel and Slice 2 and 1/2 pounds apples (McIntosh, Criterion, Jonagold) into the sour cream mixture. Fold in as you go so they don't turn brown. Pour into crust. Bake @ 450 for 10 min. Lower temp to 350 and continue baking for 35 min. Put foil around crust to keep from burning.

Topping:

Combine:
1/2 c. flour
1/3 c. sugar
1/3 c. brown sugar
1 T. cinnamon
1/4 t. salt
1/3 to 1/2 c. butter
1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts

Combine dry ingredients. Cutin butter. Add nuts and sprinkle over pie. Bake an additional 15 min @ 350.

Enjoy!!
