Someone just sent me this video on how to make your own glow sticks (bottles) out of Mountain Dew, baking soda and peroxide. Has anyone ever done this? It looked kind of cool (in a McGyver kind of way) and the Mountain Dew bottle gave off a lot of light but I wonder whether it's really safe to mix these together. I'm don't know anything about chemistry; which is why I'm asking.

This sounded so neat that I had to check it out - but looks like it's a hoax.Chemically speaking it doesn't make sense. http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/weblog/comments/4852/ They cheated and added liquid from a glowstick into the bottle and edited it.. :( Now mentos and cola.. that's true :)

I tried the Mt.Dew trick too and it failed. I tried more than once because I thought i did it wrong. there has to be some trick photography going on there. Lora
