Hi ya'll!
I am new to this chat room thing, so my heart is going pitter patter even as I write! I am so excited to be a part of this wonderful group of women who share similar interests, as important as hearth and home. A very dear friend of mine has completely rocked my world, broadened my horizons, and helped me find my way "home" by giving me Mary Jane Butter's book. I immediately got online here and became an addict in a matter of days. For a month now I have been a "lurker", ever so fearful to jump right on in, but after reading and reading and reading, I feel such a close comraderie to these farmgirls, that is hard to imagine possible!
I am a displaced Texan, having married my wonderful husband 9 years ago. He lived here in GA and for 25 years WAS a published architectural photographer. I WAS a college teacher and classical pianist....all until 2 years ago. We now are land hungry (or is it land greedy) up in the North Georgia mountains and started a successful cabin rental business in 2003. In a few years we will live up there permanently on some acres, and ever since I was given this precious gift of Mary Jane's Farmgirl life, all I dream about is having chickens, some goats, a huge garden and the simple life.
We have a 5-yr. old daughter whom I homeschool, and we are just chomping at the bit to live up in the mountains and GET OUT OF THE CITY! I dream of the days that my daughter and I can take long nature walks, care for our animals, and grow a bountiful garden.
My husband builds cabins, and I decorate them. I'm a quilter, an avid reader, we're both wine lovers, and just the other day my husband's eyes lit up when I told him we needed goats!!! Who knew?????
So I look forward to learning all I can from you farmgirls, and hope that I can be just as helpful and useful to this oh, so wonderful group that has changed my world! |

Hi Lissa and greetings from soggy Vancouver Island! I would love to see some pics of your finished cabins sometime.
Live a good and honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time. |

Thanks so much for the knd welcome and I will be a lurker no more! Our cabins are on our website at www.cabin-rentals-of-georgia.com. My husband built Majestic Lake and Riverview Lodge, and Morningstar Vista is one we manage for another couple. It's a wonderful dream to be living, and not to sound ungrateful, but all I lack now are those chickens, goats, and a big vegetable garden!!...and to dream even bigger, I'd like to have a horse and a barn. Let's see......I COULD go on and on, but I don't dare! It's just that when you move out into the country, you need to have all that goes with it! I dream of being outside all day tending to my animals, getting my hands in the dirt and growing healthy food form my family. |

HEy Lissa! Glad you came out of the shadows and into the light. You will find this forum rather addicting, and no calories. I homeshool as well and love it. I am on my last "student", as she just started highschool this year. It will seem strange not to be teaching in a few years. What will I do with myself? Read, quilt, bead, garden, spin... and hopefully be playing with grandbabies. Life is grand. Anyway, glad you here! Simply, Julia
Just checked out your website. WOW! the cabins are beautiful and the view ain't half bad! "...the setting sun is like going into the very presence of God." Elizabeth Von Arnim |
