Who here lives in or near Huntsville,Alabama?
Hubby has a tentative job offer there.. So..we are considering it..but would retain our home in Florida during that time(1 1/2 yrs)..until we determined if we'd stay there in Huntsville..or move back to Florida..at least we'd have a home to come back to if things in Huntsville didn't work.
Anyhow..I need to know a little about the housing market..and stuff like that.
We'd need a rental preferably in the country.
(I have a dog/mini schnauzer, and 4 hens and a duck)
So..what can you tell me about the area? It is about 30 miles from Chattanooga from what I can tell.

Tina- I wish I could help, but the only part of Alabama I've been to is Eufala, which is just beautiful. I do know that you would only be a couple of hours away from me though. :) I hope someone can help you with your search!

Karin,
I've been up to Eufala too..it is pretty there.
Well..Huntsville is up where the Nasa museum and training is...amongst other things..and it looks to be pretty country.
Audrey: I live in Panama right near an airforce base in the panhandle of Florida.

Tina, can you repost this request with Huntsville, AL in the title? That might catch our Alabama members interest a little better. Wish I knew something about the area, sorry...

Tina, I can't tell you too much personally. My aunt/uncle have lived there most of my life. My late mil lived there, and her family, and everyone has been very happy. There is great shopping! I think the cost of living is reasonable. You may be able to get some information by contacting a realtor in the area, just to get an idea of the best parts of town to live. We pass through a few times a year, and have enjoyed going to the Space Center. It is also within a couple hours drive of other big cities.

Hey Tina,

Huntsville is in my neck of the woods (where our mountain home is)...beautiful mountains...lots of rural property..you are only about 90 miles (getting on I-65) to go to Nashville, TN...my hometown..woohoo!!

Our mountain house is 60 miles east of Huntsville right at Lookout Mountain..we are only about 45 miles from Chattanooga....Being closer to Nashville is much better...better city for specialty stuff..Naomi would be in heaven with all the fabric shops and outlets. You would be in heaven with all the junk shops to stock your shabby chic store. That whole area is has lots of junk and collectible shops and there's a fabric shop a few hours southeast of Huntsville that Naomi could buy name brand fabric for wholesale prices.

Decatur which is just to the west of Huntsville is where Thomas reports to the engineer firm he's working for right now...that's a small town of maybe 50,000 with lots of the older homes, etc...so I don't think you'd have to hard a time finding something rural so you can have your critters.

Huntsville is a hub for higher education..there are more folks with PhD's in that city than any other city of that size...amazing!! Obviously, there is great medical care there..lots of high technology.

Let me know how this goes..I have someone I can call to see about housing and such if you need it.

Hugs....

I thought you might live near that area Stephanie.
cool! And Laura too! woohoo! that would be so neat to actually live closer to a few farm gals.

well we are waiting to hear back, but the person that called and spoke to my husband (less than 24 hrs after he submitted the resume!) said that my hubby's resume/experience definitely gave a very strong impression/that he had a very strong resume and that he could not see why my husband would not be contacted for the position.
So..this is both exciting and to be honest setting us on pins and needles as we want to of course make the right decisions for our family. The offer is for a position that would be 3 times the annual rate of pay that my husband has ever recieved in any job he has worked.
It would allow us the chance to continue to maintain our home here, and rent a home in Huntsville, still live at our comfort level that we currently are maintaining, and allow us to save up quite a lot annually.(until we decide whether to permanently relocate or not)
At least for the duration of the job..which so far they say would be a guaranteed 1 1/2 yrs.
and could possibly lead into more.
So now we are at the sit and wait with baited breath stage to find out what is to be the next step.

Well Tina, that's exactly what happened with Thomas except that the engineering firm found him and contacted him and offered more $$$$$ than we could turn down..in a couple of years we'll be able to go buy that cabin in the Smokies that we want...we've been maintaining the mountain house as well as the apartment we are in but had decided before this job ever came up that the house would be sold...so that is in the process right now.

So sounds like y'all may be blessed in the same way we have been. Can't wait to hear more...What's happened for us has convinced me once again how blessings arrive unexpectedly.

Hugs...

well one company in Melbourne,FL found hubby through a monster.com resume he had placed a year and a half back..they called about a day or two ahead of this other one in Huntsville, both offering him the same rate of pay..
So hubby went ahead and submitted the resume again to a few different places... and in less than 24 hrs/(cause he submitted at midnight the other day) we get a call the next morning about 10 a.m. with a guy calling out of Huntsville.
So..he asked hubby if he could submit the resume to the company and hubby said yes.
So..it's at the wait and see.
So now we play the waiting game.
If it is meant to be, it will be.
but gosh..Huntsville sure has a lot of cool things to do in that area and the housing market seems to be a good bit better than what we have here.

When you get away from the coast the housing prices go down..we bought our mountain house for about "half" of what the same thing would have cost in Mobile, Alabama.

I know..Paul and I were like.."my gracious look at the gorgeous houses for half the money!" we could actually be able to sell our home and buy outright for cash up there and still come out ahead..its insane.
So..this "may" be an answer to quite a bit for us.
We'll see. Not getting too excited though..as I have before..and gotten quickly deflated.
So I have been putting my emotions/thoughts on "slow" and will wait and see.
