business casual attire that won't break the bank. I have my intership coming up and I really have a blouse, 2 pairs of ballet shoes and one nice pair of pants to wear. I am scanning the thrift but nice big girl clothing is hard to come buy. I have about $150 to stretch. I am good on shoes, just need like 3-4 interchangeable outfits but don't know where to shop. Any suggestions?

My sister has gotten most of her business work clothes from Avenue and Target. They seem to be the two stores that tend to carry good business wear that isn't crazy expensive. I wish you good luck with your search! Also check out ebay, sometimes you can find good deals on there.

Thank you!! I have to do my internship at a hospital but it is executive level but I can't invest in 4 suits right now, so I need something snazzy but wearable at work and beyond. I will check out Target today since it is right by the post office.

I really hope you find something Heather! I can understand how frustrating it would be to need clothes like that for work but not being able to find good ones that you can afford.

Thanks!! My major problem are my "girls". I usually have to size up but then I look like I am wearing a tent. I can do some slight tailoring but I just wish they would be realistic in design sometimes. GRR! TO be a girl...ha!!!

I get my business casual wear at Wearguard.com - it is an Aramark company and they do uniforms, but they have nice oxford dress shirts and pants too. I look at their web site for web specials, occasionally they have Docker-like pants for sale for under $10. A while back I got a bunch of shirts for $5.97 each...

The nice thing about their clothes are that they are classic, heavy-duty and wear forever. I am still wearing one pair of pants once a week that I bought about 10 years ago.

Heather... I live in Tx too & was wondering if you have a Cato near you? They have some nice clothes & they aren't too expensive. You can find casual clothes & also dressy. They have a lot of nice blouses & skirts. Not only are the clothes reasonably priced, but the sale rack is even better. Good luck!

I am a plus-size person, too, and I swear by J.C. Penny's career clothing. I shop online and haven't been disappointed yet. I especially like the Liz Baker line. It's good quality, easy-care (the blouses and skirts I bought don't require ironing), and it is very classy and good for a business office.

Oh my!!! Thank you all for the great ideas. Kelly- I have a Cato about 15 miles from here, so will check them out next week. Jessie- I like J.C.Penney too. They always stay with the same colors year to year, so you can inter-mix. I love to find something on the sales rack.

The problem is where I live in Texas, I have the outlets up the road but with it being tourist season, the stuff is picked over. The nearest mall of any type in 25 + miles away in San Antonio. I guess I will just have to take a day and see what is out there.

Here are a few places to check via internet. They have really good sales so check out their sale areas. Shipping isnt that much, and you usually can get it within 2 weeks or less. I've had very very good luck with their clothes.

and

I just did an entire summer wardrobe and 1/2 my winter clothes for 200$..so really if you look for the sales, you can do a lot! (that's 200 WITH the shipping cost)

A few places that I go to that are very reasonable in price are:
Catos - Fashion Bug - Roamans - Goody's Clothing - Kohls

Here's a little "secret" - actually it isn't much of a secret. Fashion Bug is owned by the same folks that own Lane Bryant, Catherine's, etc. You can find pretty much the same type of clothes at FB as the other places at a LOT cheaper prices.

I'm going to have to check out the Wearguard and the Woman Within websites.

Kohls always has sales going on. Ohhh....and be sure to go to a stores website and sign up for their email savings list. JC Penneys sends out coupons a lot & secret sales. Along with a few other stores. I've also looked on ebay for particular brands that I know what size I wear. Usually I can get them cheaper on there and online. Don't forget to look on Retailmenot.com and you can look up a store's website and they show coupons for it...for just about anywhere. It's been a lifesaver for me. :)

Do you have any consignment stores that specialize in Plus Size? There is one about an hour from my house that sells nothing but Plus size in name brands. They have a lot of good stuff and they are always sending out coupons to me in the email. Do a google on plus size consignment in your state. You never know what you might find. :)

I work in a law office so I have to dress up for work. I always go to Ross, TJ Max, and hit the clearance racks at Dillards and Christopher Banks for work clothes. It takes time to weed through things but I'd rather shop than pay full price. Good Luck. Sage :)

Can I ask what plus size you are? I am also plus size and have been going through my clothes and I might have some things that would fit you. Let me know your size, you can just email me if you would rather not post it here. I am always finding/buying clothes at yard sales, thrift stores and I always end up with things that don't look good on me (I am 5'2" tall so many things the arms are too long or other issues)and know I have some things that would be good for executive office clothing. Let me know!

Oh Rose that is so kind of you. I can get into an 18w top if there is ample room for the "girls". I am tall so I usually buy all short sleeve cause nothing fits my long monkey arms or more so, my wide shoulders. Pants are another thing- I sometimes size up so I am comfortable when I sit. Thanks for the offer. And thanks everybody for the ideas.

Do you have a Ross's Department Store. I have gotten a LOT of my business wear there. Full Suits for 29.99 - 39.99. Being a plus lady myself this really helps. These are new but overstocked items. Some of them originally priced at right around $80.00 to 100.00 each.

The Dress Barn is great if there is a good sale. Also check out Sears. I have gotten great deals from their clearance racks.

I got a tip from one of the farmgirls when I was looking for clothing for my sister last year...she directed me to Woman Within webstore and I bought several things there. The quality was great, and prices were affordable. Good luck with your search and with the internship!

Oh, Heather, I wished you lived closer, you could have gone shopping in my closet last year.

I donated a lot of stuff to Goodwill. At ours, I see a lot of higher end business suits. i.e. Jones New York, Ralph Lauren etc. for 8-10 dollars per suit.
We don't wear suits at my job any longer, so I am usually found a rack or two over in the business casual section.

Ooooh, speaking of Woman Within, there is another web place called OneStopPlus, they have things from Roaman's, Jessica London, and several other catalog stores - all combined into one web site. I think a lot of clearance merchandise might go through there.

I don't know much about your area, but I find a ton of my clothes at the local consignment store...I have problems with the "twins" as well. Good luck!

My problem with consignments is I am a little on the tall side so everything is cut for 5' 7" and under. I am 5' 8", busty and wide shoulders and I need a little extra inch in the inseam. I don't mind buying new as long as it is affordable, durable and fits right. Thanks for all the great ideas!! Keep them coming as I am going shopping in 2 weeks.
