After a few mishaps (not on our part!) we finally got our bees today! Our first order was en route from CA and got wrecked in a snowstorm in MN, transferred to a refrigerated truck with no ventilation (why?) and when next checked in MI I guess all the bees were dead. So. . .a bit of a delay in getting our second order. At least this is the story the bee guy told us!

My husband was so happy that the bees were to be coming today. . .until he was up all night and all day today with constant vomiting and a killer headache. Poor guy, he hasn't been out to see the setup even yet. A man from our church who keeps bees on a semi-commercial scale came out and did it all for us (I couldn't see me trying to muddle through the first time with my 3 kiddos hovering in the background. . .OUCH!) But the guy from church actually volunteered, so kindly.

So our beekeeping adventure has begun!

Oh Sheila, I'm soooo sorry about the mishaps--poor bees! And you husband, did he have a pollen induced migraine? It's been happening here, on a large scale basis! How nice that your friend from church, who's been sortof mentoring you with the bees, was able to help out. I'm happy for you. Now you can get up and running and save the honeybee (and make some profit!)

Glad you got your bees but, like you, I'm wondering why they would put bees in a refer trailer?? The trailers can be ventilated but if it was a snowstorm, then that would make sense. I see the bee trucks a lot now on the interstates. Matter of fact, a guy asked us several years ago to haul bees for him but I wimped out. All I could think of was getting stung when we stopped to fuel!

Congratulations!
I have one package of bees arriving on May 17th, and the other on May 24th.
The hives are painted and waiting. I'm so excited!
