Hi everyone, I live in Idaho and my husband and I just purchased some land outside of Boise. I have never farmed, never taken care of animals larger than a dog, but I hope to learn some things here and get a nice little farm going. Our house is being built so we won't move onto our land for about 5 months. I am using this time to get some sewing projects done, such as finishing my quilt that has been in the works for 5 years. It will be a nice down time with no yard work, and I can really learn about some new gardening techniques to try. I've really enjoyed reading here and I hope to add something of use.

Welcome Karisue,
Congrats on the new place - sounds exciting to start something so new. How much land do you have? I can relate to having a quilt in the works...I think I have a couple of those that are waiting to be finished. Welcome to a great place!

We have just over 7 acres, one big hill. I can't wait for snow so I can take the kids sledding! Thanks for the welcome, Kari |

Welcome Kari, What an exciting time for you. It sounds wonderful. Maybe you could start with something smaller than a dog like chickens. Good luck on getting that quilt done. What pattern? Are you hand or machine quilting? Jan |

Welcome Kari! Oh to have down time! Lucky you! Enjoy it. I look forward to hearing about you house. This is a good time of year to subscribe to all the seed catalogs you can. Good reading with a cup of tea! Simply, Julia

My quilt is called Honeybee. I'm still in the process of cutting pieces, but when the top is done I'm going to try hand quilting. My mother-in-law does custom sewing and hand quilting so I'm hoping she can show me. Right now we are in an apartment with most of our things in storage, so I packed all my craft and baking things so if I want something to do I have to sew. I'm really bad about finishing projects! I am hoping to get chickens first, just a few for eggs, and I bet it'll be a couple years before we can even get a barn for other animals. My husband promised our daughter a pony so I guess we'll work for that. I'm most excited for a garden, to really expand beyond my usual tomatoes and beans and such. I'm looking forward to looking at all those sead catalogs, Julia! Kari
