One of my daughters stepped on a nail yesterday that was sticking up in a board. She's up to date on tetanus so I'm not worried about that, but she's having a lot of discomfort (understandably!) when she walks around. It's a little swollen, but not infected that I can see. Anyone have any ideas as to pain relief for that area or anything to speed along the healing of it?

The only thing I could think of is putting some moleskin (the blister preventative) over the entire area to help cushion and spread her weight out away from the puncture site. Also Vitamin E oil is very healing. I hope she feels better soon!

I would do an herbal soak. Comfrey would be the best, but you could use other healing herbs. Make a strong tea and soak her foot in it a couple times a day. You can reuse the tea for a day or two if you want.

Every path has its puddle. We have a choice - Turn around, walk around, or jump in and have fun!

A soak in epsom salts will draw out any residual bacteria.

Make the water as hot as your daughter can stand and have her soak in dissolved epsom salt for 20 minutes

Also too, even though the tetanus vaccine is good for 10 years, when something like this happens, it's good to get another booster.

We have to do the same thing here in the zoo world if an appendage gets punctured or bitten by something.
