I love Starbucks! Especially because I earn freebies with my Visa card. Love the mocha.

The line at the drive-up at our Starbucks here is a mile long no matter the time of day.....They sure have a lot of people who love them. Me, I am not a coffee drinker, but I do buy the mocha milk drinks they sell in bottles. Yum....

I too love Starbucks, but in my travels with dh, I have gotten some Starbucks lattes that taste burnt to me. Around here, I have never gotten a bad cup, their lattes are much smoother tasting than the independents I have gone to. But, I have encountered bad Starbucks in Las Vegas, Arizona, and California. Maybe just inexperienced baristas.

If you do have a bad cup, let Starbucks know and they will comp you -- i.e., give you a coupon for a free cup. I received two coupons when I emailed SB re: a cold, somewhat stale piece of coffeecake.

And Starbucks is trying to bring better consistency to their coffee drinks -- they even closed all stores for an hour or two last week for retraining.

That said, I do also frequent independent coffee shops in our area. I like to shop the small independent stores whenever possible. (This goes for fabric shops, too.)

I also found it really depends on the store. Like it was meantioned, I avoid "Busy" times because I felt the coffee to be hurriedly made. I often frequent the ones in Barnes and Noble.

Cheers,
Heather

I like the Barnes and Noble ones too - nothing better than relaxing in their coffee shop with a delicious latte and a current magazine (after I purchase it of course!)

I'm a french roast girl, I love starbucks, but haven't been there in years because I want to support mom and pop establishments. I would go to Starbucks @Pike's Place, the Starbucks of my childhood, for sentimental reasons, and because it is the only one with the old mermaid. We would come up from Southern Oregon and mom would stock up on beans there in the 80's and 90's. It was a big deal, there was no espresso in Grants Pass, OR until about 1993ish.

Hey there gals
I love coffee and we don't have a starbucks here in my province, although I have had it before. It's good, but I, too, like to support the little guys. Heather, I liked your link to www.cows.ca I live in PEI and that is where Cows started. They make THE BEST ice cream ever!!!

I like Starbucks and it's a fun place to meet friends for coffee because you can go inside and sit down. But when I buy my Friday latte I go to the local coffee place so support a local business.

I hate coffee, and I don't think I have ever been in a starbucks. We don't have a lot of them here anyways. We have a local chain, Caribou Coffee, that seems to be a favorite.

I have never had a Starbucks coffee. I know my daughter likes the Tim Horton's coffees and I love their hot chocolate!

ahhhh yes, Tim Horton's...or Timmy's as we call it in Canada. Right now they have "roll up the rim to win" you can roll up your coffee rim and possibly win a car, $$, T.V, donuts, coffee. Hey, I'm happy if I win a free coffee!!

Luckily I usually do the evening shift so I'm NOT spending my hard earned cash on java!!!!

i don't drink coffee but i love starbucks. I get hot tea there almost daily. Did you know that hot tea, unlike coffee, in a styrofoam cup causes a chemical reaction? It is really bad, carcinagenic (sorry about spelling...), for a person and in the mom and pop's i am often served tea in styrofoam. Not so at starbucks, they use Paper cups. Cheers, karen

Sorry, girls, if I buy coffee out, it's not Starbucks--only White Castle! I've given Starbucks a fair shake and it's just not my style--taste, atmosphere, or the coffee "lingo" even :)

Starbucks are fine with me, but I prefer the little local donut shop that's been in business since 1928 here in Chillicothe. They have the best coffee I've ever tasted.
