Hey if there is anyone who doesn't mind petitioning the outlaw on homeschooling, please do it! and PRAY, that our rights are not taken away.
This is just one way for the govenment to remove parental rights and take more control of U.S. citizens!

If we dont stand up and voice our opinion, the next thing may be worse.
The government officials need to know that there are people out there who care .

Look at those poor farmers who were sued by the scientists that made the seed that had a pesticide in it and it was found in fields near the tranport roads. Those farmers fought and lost. But others are fighting as well!

The more control that is given over us , the more that will be taken.

If your not AGAINST the homeschooling right of parents, go to HSLDA website and sign the petition.
Homeschooling has been outlawed in california!!!
im in New York.
This withdrawal of rights will effect everyone eventually!!!

It wont stop here if we dont do something

I had heard that some unfortunate things like this might be happening soon and it's very sad for me to hear! I will be looking up more information on this to see what it's all about. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

A mentor of mine who has a yahoo group for waldorf homescholers wrote this AMAZING post in response to many of us getting riled up about the court ruling...here is some of the discussion for you to consider.

One parent said...
While it's true that a court decision has been made against a family in California, the facts of the case have been reported in many different ways. HSLDA and CHN are on the issue and fighting the fight. Right now, nothing has changed in California.
If you are interested in the decision and the results and all the media hype visit HSLDA or CHN sites and read everything......we here in California are remaining calm and moving forward as usual. Many of the newspapers have not reported the case facts accurately, and truth the told, the family the case is against isn't such a great family. They have been involved with the courts and CPS for 20 years and the details are pretty "nasty". Even I had the thought they probably shouldn't be homeschooling their children. But, right now just remain calm. In the 1920's the US Supreme Court made a decision that parents had the right homeschool, use a private school or a public school and it's pretty hard to overturn their decisions!

AND NOW THE AMAZING REPLY OF Mrs. Marsha...

I certainly appreciate the need to be up to date on any issues
relevant to home schooling.

And I would encourage all of us to consider thoughtfully before we
rush off into the chaos of potential dangers...a difficulty place to
live, actually, and creates tremendous stress for the individual who
rushes and those who get sucked into the ebb tide of the movement
(the children!).

Working with the astral forces (soul forces) and trying to rise up
into the Realm of the Ego is a critical personal step of self
development.

What do I mean?

Not falling into the Well of Subjectivity. Consider the Little
Chicken in the The Sky is Falling! A first whiff of an impression,
and off she or he goes, screaming to the world that disaster is about
to descend.

We see this ALL the time in our current world. When you reduce
thinking time, conversation time, consideration time, alone and quiet
time, critical thinking time, and the practice of delayed
gratification has essentially been abandoned, SO....we lose the
ability to weigh the truth carefully and ferret out the reality from
the hype.

This makes living in today's world a bit difficult.

Especially for the children who witness this mad-cap willy-nilly
dashing about of shifting values, conclusions, projects, ideas,
desires, whizzing by and changing, like living with a cup of coffee.

So.

When we can, we can consciously practice the art of thoughtfulness
with regard to what comes our way, either in the form of behaviors,
messages, news, or even inspirations. We are warned by many
different wise-heads to beware of inspirations, some may be healthful
and worthy, others wear false guise and tempt us into mis-actions.
Mis-steps.

This is a good example of how globally and perhaps nationally, a bit
of gossip or ill-stated news can transform into a kind of mob-
thinking that is very similar to packs of hunting animals, moving on
their stomach-thinking, not connected with the ego or higher forces.
Pitiless. A big problem in the world.

If you KNOW you are prone to rapid judgments, practice purposeful
delays. Practice saying, I will consider that! I will think about
that! Let me sleep on that! I will discuss this with my ....friend,
husband, wife, parents, etc and TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO DO THIS!

Teach your children the value of sleeping on an important decision.

Teach them to say, I wonder.....instead of yes or no. Teach them to
give time and space to impressions, to soak in what is around and
filter it, sift it, finger it, find the hidden jewel of wisdom or
time or importance in the midst of the vats filled with refuse.

If you are too quick to speak, to react, learn to practice the art of
silence. Be in a group and say nothing. Simply be there. You might
shock people who know you! You might find out, that ALL of your
important and pressing thoughts will indeed be voiced by someone else.
Spend time in creating a companionable silence. Learn to clamp your
mouth closed and avoid steering the ship's course. It is amazing what
the wind will blow in, softly and persistently.

Teach your children the value of listening and waiting, relax on
presenting and confronting them with a zillion choices. Too much
input renders garbled output, every good scientist can attest to
this. Purposefully create situations using story and the imagination
that promotes these habits.......I wonder......if the princess had
lost her head and simply fought back instead of submitting to her
captor, what would have happened in the story of the Goose Girl?
Magic and spirit can find their way into our hearts if we can be open
to these influences.

I find it so sad to be around the children of adults who act
capriciously and irrationally and hysterically....the little people
often display a real stern and almost grim set of behaviors, in a way
their parent forces them into early parenthood....they can become
strict and tightly closed little people who realize they must hold
the gate shut tight for their overly-sanguine parent...they end up
admonishing and correcting and disciplining...and they have a grey
cast to their features long before any child should...

We can lift this burden with a simple shift in impetuosity...counter
act if you recognize this in yourself, and set up a self-training
self-discipline course to re-balance your center. Practicing
objectively includes the deliberate recognition of sensory
impressions and emotional influences. Instead of going to the
Feeling Cupboard to see what we should do, find your way to the
Thinking Shelf and select from the following:

Wait a while and let time spirit/night beings help with this situation

Investigate quietly and objectivity news that seems inflammatory

Consider the Source carefully

Choose to set the 'need' on a shelf until it encounters you again

Practice Ummmm and I see rather than Ah! I could not disagree more!
or Oooh, I HATE her, too! or any variation there....

Develop a confidential relationship with someone you really admire
and invite them to share with you, personally, how did I do there?

Finally, striving is the ideal, striving is the arrival, striving is
the journey and lights up the world! Small dots of brilliant light
shine out into the cosmos when we strive.......

Love,

Mrs. M

Alee,
I am glad you enjoy her writing, you know she grew up in Moscow and has a lovely school in Portland. Though I was nervous about leaving such a long post I feel that it is very helpful in this situation, and so many others. I always find her words to be worth a dozen of most peoples, she is truly a wise woman with farmgirl spirit.

Her yahoo group is waldorfhomeschoolers (which has a wealth of articles, age specific homeschooling ideas and handcrafting instructions in its files) and her school site (which has lovely seasonal stories and poems) is www.shiningstarschool.com

I do not know anything about the family. All I know is that this situation would effect thousands of homeschoolers. It would take away the rights of thousands.
I ,for one, have always been one to jump at the chance to stand up for something I believe in strongly. I will try to instill this ,also, in my children.

I hope that , if I was in the same situation, others would come to suport me in my efforts to keep my rights. I called the HSLDA for another purpose and they told me that they are working on this situation with great fervor. To some... mabey this is not a great deal, to others it is...

this quote came from the Campaign for Children and Families in CA. this quote- no matter how it is resolved- we feel will be now be the underlying tone in CA. which is why we have chosen not to move back to CA as planned..
"This bad ruling is a new tool for Child Protective
Services to harm good parents: Some anti-family
bureaucrats may try to use the appeals court ruling
against homeschool parents they don’t like. Therefore,
every California homeschool family needs to join the
Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). "

My husband and I both signed the petition..

Yasmine-
I did not post any of the above to undermine the seriousness of the situation or discourage people from taking action and involving themselves in the situation, I was a public school teacher in California and I STRONGLY believe in every families right to home school given the unique needs of every child and family. We are considering it for our children and I simply want to bring another idea to the table as to how we should respond in such challenging situations. Moving forward with great resolve after considering the whole story (or as much of it as we are privy to)is an important lesson for our children, they should see us fighting for what we believe in. It just seems that many people react to a situation like this by getting worked up over an initial media report and then burning out before making any real impact- that is damaging to us, our causes and our communities. It is the striving that our children should see, but hopefully not too many of the chaotic freak outs that accompany bad news (though of course there will be many of those as well). We are all trying to show them how to be balanced, considerate people- they absorb our every action. As Alee said- we want to be informed but not panicked.
Warmly, Rebekka

I heard about this on Focus On The Family. It is appalling to me that this has happened. I am praying for all the families in CA that are affected by this outrageous law! At least the governor is trying to stand up for homeschooling families.

Slowly, slowly and sometimes right out in plain view our rights to choose for our children our being taken away, it seems others know better than we do, or at least they think they do, what is good and best for our own children. Children whose lives parents invest the most time, love and work into. Something to be mindful of and to keep on top of the issues.
Something to pray about.

Rebekka Mae,

I really appreciate your posts on this subject. You are so right about getting burned out before any real progress is made.

I have been hard pressed to find any objective news report on this situation. It seems that newspapers and blogs are interested in getting everyone agitated without giving them objective facts (hmmm... talk about redundant!).

At any rate, here's a LATimes article from this morning:

hey peanut! I loked at your blog... Hey do you really just toss your fuzzy bunz in the wash and then dry? The only reason I stopped is because you have to take the yucky diaper to the toilet empty it in, hope it doesn't flick on the floor, then soak!

I like your diapers! off the subject!

I was shocked to hear of the California ruling. All of our friends in Montana are homeschoolers due to the remoteness of our home. We discussed this at length during our recent trip there. Most of the families used homeschooling freedom as a critera while looking for a place to put down their roots. I pray that things don't change for them there also.

yasmin, I'm not peanut, but yes I just put ALL my diapers in the wash and then I line dry them. (they last longer that way). I've never emptied one in the toilet, and my daughter is 19 months. She still doesn't have "formed" poo though. She still is mainly on breast milk. I also have never "soaked".

I believe the suede cloth/fleece on fuzzy bunz, and like diapers (wonderoos, etc), is why you don't have to soak, they really don't "stain".

However, I have some flannel diapers that do stain, but it really doesn't bother me.....children's stuff gets stains! lol I do though try to use a fleece liner and that helps with a lot of the stains. And then the sun will take out any other stains.

I never soak my diapers either. I figure that if they get a little stained- well...they are meant to be pooped in! LOL They hardly ever stain though. And unless it is a really HUGE poop, or completely formed- we don't flush either.

Nora is 1 year old within the next week or so, and we maybe have something to flush 3-4 times a week.

Yup, I would throw them right in.

There's only been a handful of times, like Alee said with her Nora, that I have had any problems. And it has usually been due to a super poo from a new food her body wasn't used to. Then it's just a extra wash. But, even then, I think if we would of been doing them in a "good" washer they would of been fine, it was just one time really in a bad worn out washer at a hotel, that we had to wash a second time cause of the poo.

Also just make sure not to over load the washer.

But, yeah boy was it easier when some one told me you don't have to dump the poo, just throw in the washer! And nope, nothing is ever left in the washer!

I was thankfully told at the very beginning when I was considering getting a hose for the toilet! But, glad I didn't waste the money, as I've never needed it! I just throw them all in the wash, and they come out great.

And like you and Alee, they were made to be pooped in, lol so, so what about a stain! lol And like I said, the sun does better at getting them out then soaking any way!

YEAH!

Yeah, I think if I had to do the toilet thing, I probably wouldn't be as gung ho either about it! It sure made things easier in my mind as well to just toss them poop and all in! lol :)

you know why I stopped using them? At our old house we had extremely hard water, no one could believe it. Nothing came clean when you washed it if you were not right on top of the softener downstairs in the basement. It ran out all the time. HEnce, from laundry to dishwasher, everything caame out with a film, let alone poopy diapers
At our current residence, yaywe have extremely SOFT water...
now Im going to try to find the least expensive all in one diaper...

Well, the least expensive ones kind of leak and the elastic goes bad quickly.

Right where you live some one sells bum genius they are more expensive, but I hear a lot of good about them. I have kushies and they fall apart fast! (cheap compared to others)

My father has extremely hard water, and believe it or not, even at his home, things like poop come out very well. Even though all his dishes, etc look horrible, and dishwashers die with in a year from it! lol haha His dishwasher right now is only a few months old, and the inside because of the hard water, looks 50 years old!
