Just want to introduce myself. I have been a farmgirl at heart for my whole life and have lived off and on farms and country homes in several states. Now I am 60 years old and my husband and I are dreaming (actively) of retiring in the Missouri Ozarks. We currently live in a small town in Michigan. How we got here is a long story in itself. We are both originally from northern Illinois. I would like to hear from farmgirls (any age) currently in the Missouri Ozarks and farmgirls my age who can give me some encouragement about finally living "the dream."

I can only chat sporadically, as I only have access to the Internet at work. Looking forward to hearing from other farmgirls.

Hi Judy,
Welcome to the forum. I have a very dear friend who lived in Washington State until about 10 years ago when she and her husband retired from a farm in the mountains of washington to live in retirement in Missouri. They were here just last week for a visit. They love the missouri Ozarks as much as they loved living here. We have visited them in missouri and I must say the beauty of the ozarks is amazing! My friends live in a wonderful little town "Warsaw Missouri.
Glad you have joined us here on the forum.

Thank you Eileen and Clare for the warm welcomes. We have been looking for a small farm in Missouri in the Ozark, Douglas, Wright, Webster, Texas counties. Our problem is that we are tied to a house we are trying to sell in Michigan at the moment -- and right now Michigan is going through a recession. Dozens of houses are for sale, dozens of factories going out of business or moving out of the country. As soon as our house sells, though, we are heading straight for MO. I will try to be taking some time to investigate the wealth of information on this website, though. I just bought MaryJane's book and am REALLY enjoying it. The book is also how I found this site.

Hi Judy! The Ozarks are indeed beautiful, though I am only familiar with the Akansas part. I am sure they are very much the same. Hope your house sells soon so that you can be on with your dream. It gives me hope that someday I will be able to live on a farm again. Simply, Julia
