What do you iron? How often do you iron?

I am finding myself with a little bit more time on my hands in the upcoming months so I have decided I will explore the domestic Goddess in me. I have never really ironed. I remember that wearing a white button up shirt was in style when I was in Middle School and I ironed that occasionally, but other than a few other ironing adventures, I never really have done much.

I know some people iron their blue jeans, tee-shirts- everything. And others only iron the items that "have" to be ironed.

So what do you iron?

I iron Justin's button downs for work (5) a week. I've always loved ironing mens shirts, and used to do my daddy's for him when mom was at work. I have a "thing" for sleeve creases--a great sleeve crease is the mark of a great man :)...or at least the woman who irons his clothes!

Ironing is the one domestic duty I REFUSE to do. I hate it - seriously. I can always think of something, ANYTHING, better to do

I LOVE ironing! I dont often iron much more than my pants occasionally, but am always using it for sewing. My BF will be wearing scrubs for the rest of his career-life and it bums me out a bit that I wont get to iron his dress shirts/pants for work :) hee hee

I a do it when you have to. But, mostly I try not to. It's not that I don't like to iron because I do. I just am so busy with other things I'd rather do.

When I was growing up my mom started teaching us to iron on pillowcases and handerchiefs. As we got older we moved into dad's work shirts and our school uniforms. It was great if dad caught you ironing because he would pay us for each piece. Gosh I haven't thought about that in year's.

Ick. I bought a big spray bottle of Downy Wrinkle Release.

It's soooo not natural or organic of me, but I really really hate to iron. The daycare kids always pull at the cord and that terrifies me. By the time they leave in the evening, I'm too pooped to iron.

I'm like Jennifer--my mom started me out (at about age 8) ironing pillowcases, handkerchiefs and cotton slips (this was in the late 50's)!! I like to iron. I like to see creases in pants and shirt sleeves. When I was still teaching school I didn't always have time to iron just the way I wanted to. If I was going to wear a blouse under a sweater I would just iron the colar, cuffs, and front if I was wearing a button up sweater. My mom would frown when I would tell her that. My teacher friends thought it was a good shortcut.
Alot of people don't take pride in the way they look anymore--clothes, hair, shoes, etc. They don't have to be name brand, but they can be clean and presses!!!

I hate ironing, but 99% of my clothes are wash and wear types, and I have to get the drying rack "line" off somehow.
I iron a lot-at least once a day. I can't iron a lot at a time, as I don't have the space to hang stuff, once they are finished.

Most of our "ironing" is done by hanging the item on a hanger and spraying it with just water and letting it dry overnight. Sure, I need to iron a couple of things, but this helps a lot, especially if ironing is just not on the priority list. . .except for Sunday morning during breakfast time when we're scrambling for something for everybody to wear to church!

When the dryer buzzer goes off my clothes are as ironed as they are going to get. I hate ironing. Did it as a kid and hated it then. All those hankies and napkins, then shirts, and sheets, and undies to boot. Mom was an ironing addict. If something need ironing I take it to the cleaners to get it pressed. Bad I know. But I have yet to find an iron that works for me. Have 5 right now and need to get one for sewing again. I also hate to sew on buttons, patch work clothes, hem ect... Funny as how I sewed all my children's clothing and most of mine for years. I love to sew buttons if they are for eyes or an embellishment or iron a sew open. But still never like the maintenance part of sewing. I double hate mending socks! Grandma taught me how even have her mending thingamajig but I have mended very few, OK, none in 15 years.

Put me in the ironing camp. I iron the pillowcases and linen napkins weekly (I have never bought paper napkins in my life - I used cloth napkins even back in college.) I make linen spray from water and a few dops of essential oil. I do very little ironing of clothing, though - DH's work uniform is dry cleaned and I work from home so live in levis and tanks/tees.

Most hated chore is vacuuming the area rugs. The dogs are terrified of it and attack me and the vacuum. It's a loud, exhausting endeavor. Thankfully most of house is wood floors.

I really love ironing...especially since it's one of those tasks where you can just let your mind wander while you're doing it. I always do DH's shirts, and I also iron cloth napkins and pillowcases. I pretend that I own luxurious fine linens, so I iron them which is my little treat to myself.

Ironing is so rewarding, instant results though they don't last long. i can remember ironing pillowcases in the laundry room of our old house when i was little, it seemed like great fun. The best part was always getting the clothes off the line,,,I need a clothesline here. Sometimes i get tired of ironing fabric, but all in all, I enjoy it. Karin

I love to iron, love creases on my sleeves!

Of course for sewing, I continue to open and press all seams.

I grew up ironing everything. My mother and grandmother had one day set aside each week to do their pressing. I iron an hour here and there.

My board is always up!

I don't iron.

Not because I don't own an iron. On the contrary, when I moved out of Mama's house, we made a point of getting a very nice and well-priced iron for me to use in my "big girl" home.

And it's not because I don't like doing it... though I'll admit I'd much rather knit than iron.

I don't iron because, well, I'm absolutely HORRIBLE at it. Really. As much as I love how clean and crisp and lovely it looks, I couldn't properly crease a collared shirt to save my life. Not that Mama didn't try to teach me, I just never picked up on it. One of the things on my, *ahem* short list of "Take me as I am" faults...

Oh god. I just realized that, when the beau and I move to a *smaller* apartment... where am I going to hang the wash??? Oh dear.

Well, I don't have time to iron, and when I do, I have this particular "talent" for ironing in just the right enough way that I make MORE creases, usually on the opposite side of the garment! No matter how I position the item, smooth it down, double check...nope, there usually ends up being a nice DEEP crease in exactly the spot I was trying to avoid! Like I said, talent!

I love ironing, and just hang a stack of DH's dress clothes (for work) as they come through the laundry and save it all up for one day. It takes me about an hour to get through it all (usually 6 pants/ 6 shirts) but it looks so nice and crisp for him and I know he loves it!

I really like ironing. I iron many of my dresses, skirts, blouses, tablecloths and other stuff as most of them are either cotton or rayon. I worked as a presser for an Italian dry cleaner long ago and the way they taught me to press and iron is the way I still do it. Creases in sleeves are a big no-no and I have a sleeve board just for that reason. I'm extremely fussy about not getting double creases in pleated skirts and slacks. The crease in slacks NEVER goes up the butt cheeks! Pleats in blouses, shirt sleeves and at the waist of slacks are ironed flat across the pleat then the point of the iron goes up inside the pleat to soften the end of the crease. Collars are always ironed flat and rolled. If a wrinkle won't come out, I use a mixture of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Dark colored cottons are ironed inside out so the iron doesn't scorch or shine the fabric. I know it sounds like I'm really anal about it, but this way of ironing was really drilled into me and I really like the results.

Oh Lisa!! YOu reminded me of not making creases up the behind in my military uniforms and making sure the crease ends at the same spot on each leg!! HA!! Good memories of late nights ironing my uniforms, getting them ready for inspection.

Cheers,
Heather

Oh gosh, I love to iron!
I get my from my grandma...
I iron everything and I do mean everything...underwear, sheets, some of my fabric dishtowels...
And I love using scented water to iron with!
