I had bought one of those Swiffer type damp floor cleaners to use in a pinch for quick clean-ups. I actually like the tool itself, it gets under the cabinets & other crevices real easy, but what I don't like is the wasteful & chemical laden, expensive toss away cloths. Then I thought, why buy the toss away cloths when I can cut up an old terry towel, zigzag stitch the edges and using a pencil I just attach the terry cloth towel remannt which works like a charm. Now I just use a little drop of liquid soap in warm water in my laundry room sink, hydrate & wring out the terry cloth, and wash my floors. then rinse out & hang dry. No more nasty chemicals and wasteful paper. And the Swiffer tool is easy & light weight to store. (I forgot to mention- I use the simple Swiffer, not the one w/the chemical cleaning solution dispencer that you push a button & it sprays out cleaner.)

I do this same thing! Don't you love it? I feel like I am saving so much money.
I use an old dish rag that is hemmed all round, and then I wash and bleach it for the next use.

What a great idea, I too did not want to waste all that paper, but I didn't come up with a solution. I just quit using it. I do have a pile of ripped up terry rags, so I guess I'm ready for blast off. Grace, I will send my felt pins off Monday, I kept getting sidetracked by snowstorms and having vigils for the snowplow man. Karin |

Thank you for this idea Grace! I've been feeling so guilty about my Swiffer...

That's why I bought the Method O-Mop. It has a microfiber cloth that comes with it and earth friendly cleaner you can buy! And when the handle broke on my original one, they sent me a coupon for a new one (the design has improved since I bought mine). Instead of throwing the old one out, I let my daughter use it since she's shorter than I am!
Method products are the best!

Thats a great idea. I crocheted a cotton cover for mine use it damp or dry. It feels good not to use the disposable covers. Shelle

I was really feeling guilty about my swiffer, but since I have RA the lightness of the swiffer was great. This afternoon I'm going to cut up an old towel and make a reusible cleaning cloth. Thanks for the tip!
