Hey ladies,
I've been reading a few older posts on felting and have some projects in mind that I'd like to try out. I have some old wool cutter blankets that I'd like to felt. Can something this big work for felting and if so how do I do it?
Help!

Hi Stephanie,
I found yours a bit ago and printed it out it's chock full of info. Thank you! My concern was can I put an entire blanket in the wash and get the same outcome with the wool?

it should work, linda. i'd toss a few tennis balls or something in as well to "rough it up" durring the wash. sometimes it takes a few cycles to get a good felt.

Also, if your project requires smaller pieces anyway, you might cut the blanket up prior to felting (in quarters maybe?).
Just a thought,

I saw a program(can't remember where but it was interesting)that used a felting machine. It looked like a sewing machine. Does anyone out there have one of these?

Linda, Thanks! I thought it would be more expensive. I think I might just need to get it. Not sure how to use but looks like a machine I need to add to my collection. Has anyone out here used one? Oh I need to get my creative self back out of the closet. She been away much to long.

I know the feeling I'm exploring so many things right now and it makes me feel very alive! Amazing how just creating for your own pleasure adds so much to you life. I sometimes forget!

Hey there Linda and Betty Jo,
I have the Janome Needlefelting machine you two are looking at over at Allbrands.com. I bought mine from a Janome dealer when it was on promotion.
Here's the link about it on my website: www.dreamkingdomdesigns.com/needlefelting.html
Using many different types of foundation (including wool) you can make your own wool felt..any thickness, anyway you envision it to be..it is a cool machine to have.

Hey, I got a great book on felting last night called "Warm Fuzzies" It is very detailed and has great patterns. Interestingly enough most of the felting books are saw were knit and then felt. This one specifically uses wool from clothing, blankets etc.. very cool!

Hi Bonne, Yes that's the one! It has a gorgeous mitten pattern and an aviator cap (my daughter has informed me that I MUST make them for her and all her friends!) blankets, scarfs and some silly fun stuff too. Do you know of any other books like this with a slipper pattern by chance?
