My mom called yesterday (insert scary music here...da da dooooommmmm!!!)
Most of you know of all the problems I have had with her in the past. Well, I haven't heard from them in over 5 weeks because they were in the middle of a move from one state to another and apparantley, they couldn't find a phone anywhere during this time to call and let me know. Not to say, I honestly haven't minded.
Well she called yesterday and started in on me. I have the second bout of the flu going on and I am struggling with my voice right now (coughing and it goes in and out) and I told her right off the bat I couldn't talk long because my voice was too weak. She asks me if it was from yelling at my DH an DS all the time, HUH??? Then she proceeds to tell me how sick my poor sister is and she has gone to the doctor 3 times and she isn't any better and blah, blah, blah...all the time I am thinking to myself "Sis is ALWAYS sick and it is her way of getting attention" anywho...then she berates me for not emailing her back that I got her 2 line emails where they were. I told her I got them...and then silence... If you can find a computer at the local library, you can darn well find a phone to call. She then starts asking me to fly home this summer with Charlie. UM NO!! I told them, I am married, I am not putting a 2 year old on a 5+ hour flight with a carseat, booster seat, stroller, etc...only to get to CT and have to rent a car and drive 1 hour to get there and have to stay at a hotel (they smoke and I am not exposing my family to that)and then have to shop for food for us because I know she won't, etc, etc, etc,. Plus, we just can't afford it. Well, she says, maybe next fall. She then demanded to know why I was "hiding" what was going on with DH and the military and all of our moving around. I told her " Well, if you took an active interest in my life when I was in the military, you would understand how the military works and I am no longer going to attempt to explain this" I have been around and around with her on trying to explain it to her and she just gets something stuck in her head and won't see it any other way. She basically accused me of lying about some things (I told you she is nuts...her world in her head is very screwy )which is amazing since she is not at all part of my life, knows nothing about me and still thinks I am the 18 year old girl who left 14 years ago for the military and never came back. I told her I had to go and that was it..
She seemed shocked I was so short but as soon as she started talking I thought about all the great advice you gals gave me awhile back. I was honest, direct, short and to the point. DH and I have decided that no matter what, we are just updating a phone number with them for us and that is it. We are not telling them anything anymore about what, where, who, when, etc.. We are going to build our life together and surround ourselves with new family members. DH is on board and from now on, he is going to intercept the phone calls for me. Such a good guy!!
Cheers, Heather

Yay Heather! It sounds like you had a better time of it this time. It makes me sad that your family so doesn't "get" you, and I know you need to go your own path so I am excited for you that you, your DH, and DS are breaking out of the stress they give you!

Excellent Heather! Way to take control woman! That's right...you're a grown woman & it's time Mummy treated you as such...so she'll keep @ it till she realizes you're not backing down, she'll discover her methods won't work...eventually, (God willing) she'll treat you with respect and admiration because you are living YOUR life. congratulations!

Good for you Heather. Your mother's phone call & your relationship with her reminds me of the one I have with my mother. Something I wouldn't want to wish on anyone! Enjoy your life! Your own family is the ones that really matter!
