Pricing is such a hard part of a home business like mine. My dh, who was in retail for 30 years, helped me come up with my formula. I charge 3x the cost of materials. 1/3 for the materials, 1/3 for the cost of selling the product (show fees, % my web store charges, office supplies, gas, etc.) and 1/3 for my labor - the actual amount I get for a product. In some cases I end up making about .10 an hour and in others I do alright. When you're at the stage that I am in the business development, you can't really expect to get paid much for your time. But the upside is, I'm doing what I love, I'm making a LITTLE money, and I get to stay home most of the time. So far this formula has worked for me, who knows,, maybe when I get a little more well known, I can up the prices some and be a little more fair to myself. This is just a stage of building a business I guess.

sherri They did have a gal who made quilts for the fall fair, butI dont think she was there last year. Be sure and check with Betty before makinga bunch, you never know what her mood will be if you just bring them in. I usually do the sheperds extravaganza in the spring fair, but this year I will be in Italy. But thats all fiber stuff. I did the Artists in Action one year, but people arent looking for wool stuff in the spring LOL Shirley |

Italy - wow! Can't believe you'd give up Puyallup for Italy!! No - I know better than to bring something without running it by Betty first! I was thinking more of the "free for all" fairs that I do - mostly in Montana. They are great for "unthemed" merchandise (ie. the leftover stuff from the line, discontinued, one of a kind) I do really well over there and most of them aren't juried so you don't have to stick to a limited line. It's a good way to try some new things out without having to build a whole line around them. Of course, what works in Montana won't necessarily work in WA!
