we always have a tincture of shepherds purse on hand, for bleeding calendula cream for skin irritations and bug bits swedish bitters for bruises White flower ointment for sprains, muscle aches, and when breathing is difficult due to congestion. We either put it under the nose or fill the tub with hot water, sprinkle some white flower in the water and sinuses clear almost immediately. I use hemp oil for scarring lavender oil for burns Mullein blossoms in olive oil for ear aches

Lavender and peppermint are a must for me! I use lavender for just about everything- especially getting to sleep and adding to mild lotion to soothe my skin. I use peppermint in the dryer as an alternative to dryer sheets. I also need calendula and arnica for my terrible skin and bruises.

Might I also put in a plug for Comfrey? It is my favorite herb. It's an incredible healer, being mixed into an olive-oil salve is AWESOME at healing cuts, dry skin, etc. |

I really like plantain. If you have little ones Rescue Remedy is very good too. I think I could possibly take up pages if I listed all of the good ideas to have, but these ywo are probably the ones that go everywhere...oh, oh and chamomile.

I have been away for a while~so glad to come back and find this great thread!
Do any of you use Chamomile tea to help you sleep? And if you grow your own, is the Roman or the German the best?
Thanks,
R~Mary

With all the chores I do, I fall into bed and am asleep in two seconds so I can't answer you about that : ) except I can share with you that I do grow Camomile. I grow the German variety and it is lovely to grow and work with

I'd vote for Lemon Balm and Yarrow, my two current favorites.
I make the Lemon Balm tincture recipe that Kathy of the Enchanted Wood posted ... we use it daily as an immune system booster and for general well-being, plus extra doses if/during times I am feeling like I am coming down with something. Since starting this regime almost two years ago I think I have been, and felt, better and healthier.
Yarrow is another tincture I made, and use for bleeding, antibiotic, congestion purposes.
The plants are nice looking in the garden, too. I am growing both of these this year, along with some new stuff to try: chamomile and feverfew (for a friend who gets migraines).

The must haves for me are: Tea Tree Oil - Infections Eucalyptus - Lung infections, sinus, bronchitis Chamomile - soothing for sleep Calandula - Skin Irritation Echinacea Tincture - ALL infections and general health. I take 15 drops in OJ 2x a day when I start to feel something coming on or if the flu is hitting. I go on for 10 days and then off of it till the need arises again.
I know it said 5 but Pau D Arco - GREAT for infections bacterial or viral.
We use honey for coughs- anit bacterial and microbial. To help with rest, mix with alcohol. We use moonshine :).... My dad always made a mixture for chest infections. Steep chammomile in moonshine then mix with honey. Take for colds and flu. IT WORKS...
Dead Sea and Espom salts are great for aches and pains.
I recently went on a cleanse with black walnut, wormwood and cloves. NO MORE sickness. Everyone has had the flu, bronchitis. ect. NOT ME!
I do a couple of teas - Tummy Tamer and Serenity. The Tummer Tamer is chamomile, peppermint, and a few other herbs. This is great for any flu or ulcers. The second is Serenity Tea. My daughter is bi-polar. We used a lot of herbs to get her off meds. Now when she is having a manic episode she uses Serenity Tea to calm down and sleep. It is safe to use during pregnancy as well. This is chamomile, st.johns wort, valerian root, raspberry, ect... I love it just before bed time.
I am from the Appalachian Mountains. There were always herb tinctures around as I grew up. I believe that as a society we need to use antibiotics as a last resort. Dr's and meds have there place but today we run to the dr with every little ailment. Herbs are a great alternative.
