Well farmgirls friends, I have been trying to do things the "old fashion way" around here. More so to be in touch with life, less than just trying to prove a point...
I have been pin curling my hair twice a week. It still takes me a long time but I finally got some double pronged clips to hold my thick hair. Still having problems sectioning, but it is fun!!! Reminds me on my Nanna and I get to wear pretty vintage bandanas or scarves..
I have been line drying things more. We live in an apartment, but the extra moisture is needed and I like to arrange things by color, so pretty to look at.
Making more rustic meals, less pre-packaged items. It is taking me longer right now, since I am technically teaching myself how to cook again, but this time from scratch. Things do taste better!!! I do have to plan a bit better and I am learning new areas to shop at.
What things do you do everyday that keeps life simple and reminds of to be alert to life around you?

I do line dry my clothes, make my own soaps and laudry detergent, let my hair air dry (I would love to see yours pin curled, my Grandma used to do that but mine is waist length), cook from scratch including grinding my own grain.

I have also been "freshening" up before DH comes home. I noticed I have let myself go for the past year or so, so a little wash of the face, moisturize, lip gloss, touch of mascara and some cover-up and of course, a BIG smile and hug and kiss...
It not only makes me feel better, but I think it sets the mood.
Speaking of which, I try to set a mood now in the house too. I light a candle, draw the curtains, turn on a soft lamp, keep the table clean- little things that set a comfortable, calm mood. It is really making a difference for everyone!!

oh, heather, i need to get back into that routine. everynight at 6, i would draw the curtains, light candles, and turn on soft music. that was our cue to start winding down for the day.
What we write today slipped into our souls some other day when we were alone and doing nothing.

i would love to line dry the clothes but with this cold snap they would never dry, even inside lol. so until spring the dryer shall be used and it helps keep the pipes warm or atleast thats what i keep telling myself.

Actually Teresa, you can line dry in freezing weather. But if you do use your dryer indoors in the winter, you should consider buying a $5.00 device from the hardware store. You remove the output hose from the back of the dryer, attach it to this device that looks like a plastice coffee can with a weird lid. You fill the device with water and put a plastic baggie with duct tape around the hole in the wall to the outside. Now, when you turn on your dryer, all the heat stays in the house instead of warming up the outside. And if the humidity gets to be too much in the house, you can buy for around $8 some "water conservation crystals" from the hardware store as well. They pull the humidity from the air. Just put them into a cloth sack, say a tablespoon for about the size of a woman's sock and sew the top shut. Then put the cloth sack right next to the device. You will be amazed!!! You probably won't have to run you heat at all as long as you do one or two loads of laundry a day.
