LIBBY suggested this author. Elinore Pruitt Steward. So I ordered two of her books, one of them came today. I posted a picture. I love the cover on the book. So I will start reading this later today. Hope the other one comes soon.

Janice- No, they are real letters from Mrs. Steward as she and her family homesteaded in Southern Wyoming. Let me tell you, that is not the most hospitable place! I have been there! It is an amazing collection and very honest and down to earth! I love her books!

I live about 40 miles from where Mrs. Steward lived in Burnt Fork, Wyoming. That is a wonderful book and you will truly appreciate the hardships that our "farmgirl" forbears had to endure. Next time I am that way, I will try to take pics of the homestead. Let me know what you think.

Nancy, your blog is gone! I can't get it anymore. This sounds like a great book. I remember watching a movie about a family somewhere out there and the wind blew all the time and the woman was going crazy sweeping the dirt out of their house all day long. It did not end well at all. I hope this book does.

I have the same complaint about not reaching Nancy's blog. It said something about not posting since 2007. Would like to see the picture.

I read this book a few years ago and I enjoyed it very much. At the time I was living on the high plains of Colorado and the book seemed very close to home and after reading it I could imagine the lives of the women who homesteaded the area where I was living.

Thanks to all of you farmgirl sisters for mentioning this book! After waiting about a month I finally received it from the library and enjoyed it a lot. I really admired Elinore's spirit and storytelling abilities. And what a cast of characters she encountered! She was very matter-of-fact about her life without descending into, "Woe is me, life is hard!" Wouldn't you love to receive letters like that? Heck, I wish I could write letters like that!
