I am looking for an easy safe oven cleaner to clean a Wolf oven. I know a long time ago. I had a recipe that involved a warm oven and a solution of vinegar (?) and something else. You warmed the oven and set the bowl in the oven over night next morning you just need to wipe out. But it has been years since I needed to clean a non-self cleaning oven. I know I even used it on my gas grill. If you have a suggestion I would love it.

How about ammonia...I've read to set a bowl of ammonia inside a barely warmed oven overnight...Next morning, it will have loosened the stuck stuff so you can clean it easily. I know it can't be mixed with bleach unless you want toxic fumes, but not sure about vinegar. I'd use vinegar water the following day, after the first wipe down to get the worst stuff out.
I use ammonia in my washer when doing grease rags from the shop, it really cuts the grease and also clears up the sinuses :)
Ronna...who needs to run the cleaning cycle in my oven.

I've used ammonia in a large black plastic trash bag, set the oven shelves and stove trim and spill catcher (the bowl under the burner, whatever it's called) in the bag overnight on the back porch...they come clean, nearly like new..the baked on build-up just comes right off. I don't know about using it in the oven, but it sounds like it might work. I'd maybe do it during a time when no one is in the house (fumes). I think I might just give it a try myself. Warm oven, bowl of ammonia...great idea.

I usually make a thick paste of baking soda and keep it moist but slightly warm if I can and leave it for about 4 hours. Then most everything comes right off.

How about cleaning the window. Mine has a film of a dark greasy like layer on it, and you can't see inside very well.
I tried wiping it with straight vinegar, but it didn't do a thing.

Kate...the film is to keep anyone from seeing that the oven needs cleaning in case company shows up :)
Seriously, that's a good question, since you can't take a chance of scratching the window and possibly weakening it-which might cause it to break. I still might try a very light SOS pad or such, after letting a soapy cloth loosen the grime.
