who has lost[ or has a sick faithful friend. We found out today that our 11 1/2 year old Rottie dog has bone cancer. My heart is breaking, because she surely is a member of the family and a quilting buddy. Just had to vent a little. Thanks 4/12/08 Three months went by so fast and this week we just knew it was time. We had her put down yesterday morning, and I just can't believe how my heart is breaking. Trying to be strong for the family and all that, but I broke down this morning as she was not under my feet as I put dinner in the crock pot. Or when I decided I had to do something I went to my sewing table and she wasn't across from me on her couch, watching me with those lovely dark eyes. I know it will get easier, but gosh it is tough. Thank you girls, I knew I could depend on you all for a bit of sympathy. There isn't a next step, not for us anyways. The cancer is in her left front leg. It has some long name and odds are it's already in her blood system and particularly her lungs. We could have the leg ammutated and do treatments, but the average extended lifespan is only 10 months. Being that she is 11 1/2, my husband and I just can't see that it would be worth putting her through. So we pamper her and love her. Gives me a good excuse to get some major hand quilting done b/c she loves to snuggle in them. (she's the ultimate 100 lb lap dog!) As long as she's not in pain, which she does not seem to be, we'll go on as normal as we can. The vet gave her 3 to 6 months.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this Bonnie. I have lost several basset hound buddies over the years...my most heartbreaking was Daisy. Thankfully she died in her sleep at 13..still so hard to see her go. I had known it wouldn't be long but still wasn't ready. Hug her extra for me!

Bonnie, I lost my Barney the chocolate and tan daschshund to lymphoma, I know what you are going through. It would be a terrible ordeal for her to have her leg amputated and then have chemo. I agree with you, just let her live her life out and love and cherish every minute you have with her. All that she really needs to be happy is you. I will be thinking of you and her and praying what time she has left is good for both of you.

Oh Bonnie! I am so sorry to hear this! We had to put my chocolate lab mix friend to sleep in September due to cancer. It is always sad to lose such a close friend, but I wouldn't trade the years of friendship and support for anything!

Bonnie I lost my heart & soul Emily(13 yr Harlequin dane) last January. She was truly my heart & I will love her forever. I try to just consider myself blessed for getting to spend the time I did with her. I had a song I sang to her every day "Sanctuary" & I told her I loved her every day; & I was fortunate to be with her when she died (naturally, not put to sleep), & while she was dying I sang to her & told her I loved her. It was so hard, but I am glad it happened that way. Kiss that Rottie snoot for me. Snoots are the sweetest part. |

Bonnie I am so sorry to hear your sad news. I too had a quilting buddy, when we found out he was dieing he and I spent his last days quilting away. Every time I look at that quilt I see him beside my sewing machine, I still get tears thinking of him but have so many good memories of he and I quilting. God Bless you both!! Hugs, Kathy |

Bonnie, So sorry to hear this sad news. I just lost the sweetest and most obedient boston last August. Seems like yesterday. She had kidney disease which we didn't catch very early. No way to really know she had it because unless there is a problem they don't test. She was with us about 3 weeks and passed in her sleep. I still get teary thinking about. We have her "sister" well not her real sister but they were pals too. Though she never really has grieved for her like they said she might. I had a painting done of her by one of the girls that I met through this forum. I gave it to my husband for Christmas and I'll tell you it looks just like her and I'm glad I had it done. I don't know it just seemed to help. hugs, Denise

Oh, Bonnie, I'm heartbroken with you. It's so very terrible to lose a best friend. I know it well--and I don't envy you, however, you're doing the right thing by her. It's so difficult to make those decisions about medical treatment...I'm thinking of you and your sweet pup. Cause no matter how old, they're all pups to me ;)
Give her a snuggle from me and my clan. J

Ah, Moosie! I'm so sorry to hear that! How far progressed is it? What are your options for her?
I know it's hard, and I've never been sure if having time to prepare is easier on the heart or not. Big hugs to you, my friend!

So sorry about your dog, how lucky all these animals are to have been loved by so many remarkable women. It always amazes me how deeply they creep into our hearts. |

I'm so sorry, Bonnie. I waited a long time to get another cat after my first one died. It's so hard to lose an animal you love. I'm glad she's still happy and pain-free. |

Bonnie,
After having recently lost our Daisy Dog, I truly feel your pain.
One thing I can tell you is that the most special time I had with her was the time between when I found out she was sick and when she passed. I knew that I didn't have much time, so I went out of my way to give her extra love and to notice the little things about her personality that I loved so much. I suggest writing down some of those times in a journal, so when you are thinking about her in the future, you can go back and read how much you loved her. It really helps.
My family is praying for you and your loved one.
