Today my son left to go back to VA as his leave is over. His girlfriend had flown in from CA to spend the week with him. She loves antiquing so we spent the 31st shopping. Had a great time. Today his flight left about 8 hours before hers so took her shopping again. I was very good and only spent $10. (On a mohair hat to match a mohair scarf I bought two weeks ago.) But may have to return to a store over an hour away to buy a coat. It is so beautiful. A variated Grey curly lamb hair with a beautiful fox collar. It is from the 30's-40's I believe and in mint condition. Has a cool belt that goes through the inside of the coat. Even the pocket and lining were complete. It fit perfect. I should of bought it right than and there but could not think of what I would tell my DH. $165. I need another coat like I need a hole in my head. We also do not go out enough to have another curly lamb coat as I already have a black one with rabbit fur cuffs. In another both they had a matching hat. I am so in love!!!! It is so impractical! I have a couple of pieces of jewelry (Antique costume) that I could sell to come up with the money. Oh I don't know what to do. It's probably a go thing I start work again on Monday as I wont have the time to take the drive until the end of the month. Maybe I'll be over it by then. Or maybe I'll have to just make the time!

It sounds like you had fun thrifting but now it's not so fun tryinh to make decision. And you are right, maybe in a month you won't even want curley sue coat. MB

Oh, I just love thrift stores! I always go straight to the old dishes (I tend to have way too many antique dishes so I call it a collection). We have one a mile from our house so that makes it way too convenient!

What fun, Betty Jo! Thrifting is my all time favorite thing to do. And I love to hear about everyone elses treasure hunts as well.

Betty Jo -- Wait on buying that coat. You'd do better to keep the antique jewelry, which will retain value, than buy an old curly coat, IMHO. And since you already have one . . . just think of it as a museum piece -- you saw it and enjoyed seeing it and now you just go home!

I agree with Katie-ell about the coat thing, Betty Jo. Mostly because I've got vintage coats hanging in my closet that I'll never wear again. I know how it is to fall in love with vintage clothes. They always seemed to be so much more 'tailored' and just had a way of fitting so perfectly. And the attention to the little details!

Does the thrift store with the coat have a half priced day? That way, if you really feel that you still NEED it, it would be a little more reasonable.

Talked to DH last night and he said go for it. But I am going to wait a month and see. Since I can only wear one at a time I just might give the old one to my daughter who has loved it since the day I got it many years ago. Or turn it into a muff or other items. Did that with my old beaver fur many years ago. Of course then I was trying to feed 5 children. Off to the doctor and have to go right past 2 more thrift stores. Oh Lord Keep Me Strong!
