We know several people with little Ava's too. I think a couple are Ava Grace, which I think is lovely. Having a name like Toni, I always thought that I would never name my little girls with masculine names, but I find that I lean towards those boyish/unisex names for girls like Carson or Merrit.
My friend has two little boys, Elijah (Eli) and Ezekial (Zeke) whose names I really like. We also know Henry and George who are two of the cutest kids I have ever met.
In school, we had too many Lindseys, Courtneys and Haleys. It was ridiculous. Also, about the time I was in high school, Peyton Manning was the QB at the state University and there were so many people naming their kids Peyton, mostly girls, though, lol. |

My name is Jonni (pronounced like John-E), and I was never to keen on it until I realized I really couldn't BE anyone else :). One of my good friends in school was Michael--a girl. I think her mom had a thing for the actress Michael Learned. Ava Grace is pretty--our Ava is a combo of my sil's name Alivia.
I have also always liked "Jude"--purple]but BOY-HOWDY when Jude Law popped on the scene did I like it MORE[/purple], but Beatle fanatic husband nixed it right away--stating negative connotations, blah blah beatles, blah, yoko, michael jackson, blah blah...I stopped listening after he said "no"
How funny those initials--A.S.S....SO glad you pointed out the gaelic spelling--it's a very flattering name, I think. We have a very Norman gaelic last name "Lynch", so Eamon goes well with it--lots of names do, actually. More boys than girls though, for some reason.

wow! lots of ideas! we really like to pick old fashioned names. we have Aurora Ruth, Evelina Rose(old for Evelin) Sophia Irene, and Earl Dayton, we just read that Sophia is very popular now, bummer. i really like Dayton, maybe that is because it was my grandpa's name. the right name will come, i've read that they use to not name baby until after he was born. sometimes the name comes to you after seeing the little face! when is the little blessing expected to come?

I also like Merritt I forgot that one. I had a baby book of names from high school (told you I love names) but mum lent it to a woman without asking me never got it back:( I loved it. Phooey. Yeah I knew a chick named Michael and one named Neil (poor thing she was always put in to room with a man they wouldn't believe her) There are so many Mackenzies and Madisons. I tend to lean toward Irish or Italian names. I would hate to name a kid something they didn't have any background in. I love the name Sophia! I also like Scarlett Bethany ( I will use Bethany cause of my close cousin that died) Kathleen. My gma is Rosella but goes by Zellie. I think Zellie is kinda ugly compared to the pretty Rosella image. I like noble sounding names too. I like Winston Stanton stuff like that. I like Thaddeus. My great gma dreamt my auntie would have a boy named Thaddeus Virtue. Kinda neat. I am NOT keen on Juniors. I feel like great ur keeping A name in the family but not via the 3rd or whatever because you are YOU! My bf is a junior and his dad is Big mike, he's Mike but I call him Michael and his sis's bro is Mike and his dad is Mike and his cousin is Mike. I think total in the wedding party there were 6 Mikes! If I were to marry him I'd be Bridget McCann which suits me with an irish background and I tend to like Irish/Gaelic names:)

Thaddeus Virtue--what a great name! I may have to swipe that dream! We have some great family names--but none are repeated unfortunately. Theodocia was my Ggma, and her mother was Eleanora Wray. In those days, it seemed like they used the maiden name often as a middle name. There was "Uncle Ves" (Sylvester) and my dad was James Dorby (and he HATED that).
For a girl, I've always loved Odessa, but Odessa Lynch is a heck of a name!

oh i adore last names for middle names. i toy with using my last name Shirey for a middle name just so it lives on. I don't think it's a horrible name either. You'd be amazed how people see ShirLey not Shirey. Drives me up a wall. Spell my first name however you like but don't mess up my last name it is easy!

What lovely names! Almost wish I was having another baby just to use a couple of them.
Well, I just have to add Luke to the list. Simple but strong. The name of our 2nd son. And then I just love Nolan. It is a family name and all our boys have it has their middle name.
Can't wait to hear what you name the little name. I'm sure it will be just perfect whatever you choose!

Tristan used to be one of my favorite names--especially while living in England. Tristan is popular there, along with Alistair, and Damian, and Neil...but Tristan mostly because of the legend of Tristan and Isolde, from Arthurian times.

I too tried to name my children with good sturdy names. I always wished I could have more kids because I really wanted to name a son of mine Benjamin after my brother, but I have only one birth son. I am the mother of a beautiful blended family of 11 children. When we married we had a beautiful family ceremony and dedicated our lives to all of them... no his/mine thing... Here are our kids names: Robert James, Jacob Shawn, Steven Matthew, Chellsie Marie, Evelyn Marie, Kayla Michelle, Katheran Marie, Jessica Rose, Brett J., Laura Ruth, Thomas Edward II. Another name I didn't see mentioned that I really like is Abraham.

I like Joseph as well (as a "JoAnne" and having been named for my mother's paternal grandparents, Joseph and Annie) - cute side story; my dad once wrote a note to excuse me from school when my mom was away taking care of her dying step-dad and he spelled it as "Joe-Ann" ! I had to explain a bit to my teacher why my own parent could not spell my name and that the note was indeed legitimate! Obviously, he wasn't used to spelling my name, and in fact, his nickname for me when I was a kid was always "Joey." Oh well, wish I had that note today; it's a very fond memory!
Back to the question, JOSEPH, your aunt can't get mad at that, and it flows with the your other son's name starting with J. My other favorites are Alex, Justin, Dustin, Daniel, Bradley, Matthew and Travis, or Joshua!
Or, what's your DH's name or middle name? Would those work or did you already use those on the your first son?

I am still trying to convince my husband on the name Joseph. It would go with our son Jacob's name, and a Jakey and Joey would be so cute together when they are boys. My husband's name is Benjamin and though I have always loved that name I do not like Jr. so we used that as our son's middle name - Jacob Benjamin. This baby is due in the middle of May so we have a little time to decide on a name and I love a lot of your suggestions so will print everything out and let my husband look through it. He wasn't that "into" either of our children's names but didn't give much input so I decided for him and they really do fit their names so I wouldn't have it any other way! The bad thing is that most of my favorite names are already used in my immediate family. Though I see no problem with a child having the same name in a family I also don't feel like naming them the same name as my own brothers or sisters. One favorite of mine is Michael (I'm surprised no one mentioned that!) but that is my brother's name and maybe I will use it in the future (mine could be nicknamed Mike or Mickey) I'm not considering it for this one. -Elizabeth |

My son's name is Charles Michael- Charlie for short, though DH calls him Bubba these days. HA!!! I think it is formal enough when needed (he is named after his Grandpa's) and Charlie is cute and fun.

Elizabeth, my youngest brother in law is Mick. It isn't short for anything...his name is Mick. Michael for me is sort of "tired" because we have so many relatives named Michael. At least 10 that I can count throughout the familly.

How about James Michael. My dad's name is James & so is my son's middle name, though I really didnt name him after my dad. it was the only name that came to us & sounded right. Same with my daughter. It was good we had a boy & girl at that time. My last DD, we had a harder time with her.

Well I didn't want to wade through the whole thread but here's a couple thoughts:
My two boys are named Ross Alexander and Noah Cuyler(pronounced KY ler). There are a lot of Noah's out there these days though! My dad's name is Hollis Nolan. I wouldn't go with a J name if you already have one but that's up to you:
Jared is biblical Jonah Joram Jackson Garrett Garth Alex or Alexander Nathan (biblical) Nathanial Johnathen Fenton (one of hubby's commanders was named this and I thought it was neat sounding)
I love all the old galic names at well!
Blesings!

Agh so many of the names that are nice and fine I see and picture people i went to school with and I am like OH NO. It's like when you teach school you can bank on certain names being the "bad" kids and you just have to call out one and sure enough. Michael is a good name that is my bfs. Too many mikes in his fam like I mentioned before.

Kiernan and Adian are my two favorite boys names and if I were going to have babies that's what I'd name them if they were boys. Since I most likely won't be having kids I suppose I could let you use them if you liked them

You can't base names on past aquaintences all the time -- just base it off what that name means and what you want to see your children be when they grow up as names still have power.

Ezekial - with Zeke for short. Love the masculinity of that.
My daughter has a book on Biblical names and their meanings. It has been said that a person will live into their name, and a special strong and positive meaning often influences a child's life for the good.
You might find it fun to look for a book that not only contains Biblical names but their definitions.

Two grandsons here. Xander and Tristen. Pronounced Zander. Their father liked Alexander but thought it was too used, so he tweaked it into Xander and that is how it is spelled. My two are Faith Ann and Matthew. Faith Ann is pregnant and wants to name a boy Carter Isaac, which would be the last name of her step father and the middle name of her grandfather. I think it is precious. Just my thoughts...and CONGRATS on the boy!
