I love day lilies. I have been growing them for years. My father is a big fan too and always buys the latest varieties, no matter what they cost. I live fairly close to "The Fields". They breed and sell more varieties then you can imagine of day lilies here and on the island they own off of the coast of Italy. It's quite breathtaking to walk around their display gardens and fields of day lilies. It's very hard to make a choice, but somehow I manage!
I think now would be a good time for me to look at the pictures I took there last summer.
Our house came with tons of daylilies already planted in the back yard. Our house is almost 100 years old, and the daylilies probably aren't much behind the house in age! We've got 2 really big patches of them and I wouldn't think of digging them up. They come in loads of different colors, but mine are all orange. They are trouble-free to grow and pretty much take care of themselves. The only thing I do to maintain them is cut down the stems once the flowers are done. They are extremely hard (I live in zone 4) and they keep coming back year after year. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!
