We tricked her! She really wanted a laptop which we (and she) didn't think we could do this year. But we fanangled a bunch of our bills and managed to get it for her. She'll really need it for college next year. We could only get her a few other cheapie things like drawing pencils and a sketchbook but she was really happy with those.
Anyway, on to the tricky part. After I wrapped the laptop, dh was afraid she might figure it out so he wrote that it was to him from us. DD asked me what we got Dad so I lied and told her it was a stereo for the truck. The truck doesn't even have a radio so she thought that was cool.
Then, dh made her save that package for last and then she handed it to him, all excited for him to open it. He pulled off the bow and then handed the package back to her and told her it was hers. She refused at first insisting it was his (I've never lied to her before except about Santa so she really believed me). Then when she opened it up, she let out a squeal!
All these years we've never gotten that reaction out of anything we've given her. The bills can wait - this was sooooo worth it.
