Ok, I couldn't wait to show you all.. I haven't ironed it, nor have I framed it..both I'm going to do tomorrow.. However, here's the story: My husband has always considered himself "the new branch of the family tree" since he is the first and only person in his family to leave his home state.. Soooooo, I made our family tree! I just finished stitching it this evening when I noticed my signature line and date.. I MEANT to stitch "lovingly made.." but what I stitched was "loving" omitting the "ly"!! I could have died!! I wanted to scream all kinds of nasty things but I refrained.. Instead, I laughed.. It is soooooo typical in many ways.. I decided NOT to cut the thread and re-stitch it..instead I added the "ly" above to always remind me of my many many imperfections that my husband has to live with each and every single day! It was a hilarious and humbling moment.. I hope you like it..let me know what you think..
It is stitched on linen with vintage silk threads...

Really lovely Julia! It's sure to become an heirloom. I like that you left your boo boo. Did you know the amish intentionally leave a small mistake in their quilts-as no human is perfect, only God?

You are such a thoughful wifey!

It's wonderful, Julia. I think, in a hundred years, a descendant of yours will look at it, touch the glass in the place where you 'fixed' your mistake, smile and really 'know' you as a real live human being. :)

What a treasure! Your husband is so blessed that you would take the time to make this special gift for him. I'm sure he will always treasure it. Your little mistake just adds character and will bring many smiles in years to come!

That is so nice...I love it! He will really appreciate it since it was made by you with love. That's an heirloom to be passed down to family members. You know....don't worry about the 'oops' with loving...I love that you added the 'ly' with an arrow. It just makes it that much more charming! You know, the Amish quilts always have an imperfection, done intentionally. The reason is that only God is perfection.

OH Thank you all so very much! I took it in yesterday to have framed and the whole thing is growing on me.. I get so darn hyper-critical that I was starting to think it was stupid and that the freestyle lettering was just too childish... I'm not completely secure about it yet but I'm going forward. I did know that the Amish purposely keep something off kilter in their quilts as a reminder of their imperfections. I'm certain that's what made letting go of my mistake so much easier. It was truly a perfect reflection of me..."nice most of the time but flawed!" hahaha
I really like the tree and I like the sampler part...my first ever.. it was done with small cross-stitches..not counted just free-hand..the linen is not perfectly aligned like cross stitch fabric so its not perfect but I like it ok.. I don't like as well the free hand lettering of our names. I used a different stich..just a rolling chain type stitch and I think it looks a little dumb! seriously...not super happy about that part. Oh well,....here it is...I've done it.. I'm totally putting myself out there and maybe over the years as my eye sight deteriorates it will grow on me!! LOL thanks again ladies..your votes of encouragement are so wonderful!
