Wow! Almost 100 sisterhood members! Isn't this great?! I love how excited we all are to belong to something special like this! I never was in Girl Scouts or anything where I could earn awards like this, so the badges are extra special to me. And it is so nice to know there are so many other Sisters out there to share my excitement with!!

Alee do you have to be both a chapter member as well as a Farmgirl Sister to work on merit badges? |

Diane, I don't think so. Just a Farmgirl Sister.
Isn't this fun? I can't wait to work on my badges after the Christmas rush is over.

This is fun Patricia. Some badges will be a little easier, but I'm looking forward to the ones that are challenges and learning new things. I'm going to learn to use that metal file to sharpen tools if it kills me! haha Di

Yea....wooo-hoooo and happy dance! So glad to hear about our growing numbers :) When I was in Girl Scouts for the time I was in it, I really did not have the chance to earn many merit badges, so now I get to make up for that while having a good time.

Hi Diane!
No, you don't have to be in a chapter to participate in the Merit Badge program, just in the Sisterhood. However, there are some badges that require you to share and participate with a chapter. Please don't be daunted by this as you could always start a chapter with friends and family or join a virtual chapter or search one out in your area! And of course, if being in a chapter doesn't appeal to you, you could always by pass those merit badges or the levels of the badges that require participation within a chapter.

Thanks Alee. It's not that I wouldn't want to join a chapter, I just don't feel it would be right for me to commit to one and not be able to keep up my end of the bargain. I just get soooo busy for all but about 2 months of the year and I'd never want to let anyone down. But that's okay, I can work on badges that don't require participation in a chapter. So that brings up the next question...how do we go about submitting work/pictures etc. to get badges? Di |

The "Apply for a Merit Badge" section will be available soon. The techies are still whacking out the details on the Henhouses and applying for a merit badge areas. We will make sure there is a big announcement as soon as you can apply. Go a head and just keep working towards those badges and then when the time comes, you can apply for a bunch all at once! :D

It's great to be a part of something like this I think. Alee, I wasn't in the scouts either when I was younger, but I always wanted to. I was a member of 4 H and did various projects, but it wasn't quite the same. I'm really looking forward to the challenges and the merit badge opportunities. I'm enjoying getting to know everyone here.

I just purchased the sisterhood membership, but like a dork realized there was a typo in my first name after I hit the purchse button..urghh..I left them a message at the farm, I hope I can get it corrected before my name hits the sisterhood name list!!

This is super!
I was a Girl Scout for about 6 months and quit because I was too scared to sell cookies door to door. No badges for me! My girls have been involved in a similar group to scouts called Keepers of the Faith. They earn charms for a bracelet, although badges are available, too. I've been adding charms to mine as they earn them.
BUT THIS IS MY VERY OWN GROUP OF PAL GALS!!! I'm so excited.
MaryJane, you continue to join together kindrid hearts from all over the world. This is just one more way for us to bond and gain skills at the same time.
All Y'all up there at the Farm are just wonderful!!!

Wowee! Only 10 left before we hit 100! I feel like we need to throw a 100th Farmgirl Sister celebration when that happens! I love this!

That's my thought, too, Tasha-Rose. I've pretty much been doing everything on the list for years and years. And you can trust me: I will not be trying for a badge in animal husbandry (human husbandry is trouble enough, thank you ) or tearing down a tractor and putting it back together again -- oh wait. I did that, too, in 1998, if a riding mower qualifies. (Sears Craftsman hunk o' junk that we got from my parents as a wedding present. *sigh*)
Perhaps there are some of us skilled and/or mellow enough to do this for the pure pleasure of hanging out together, which we already pretty much do right here -- but maybe it would be fun to have an excuse to hit consignment shops for a perfect jeans jacket to doll up with the main Farmgirl badge. Hmm. Let me think about this a while. |

I also have a question - a lot of the merit badge steps require you to present something at your meeting - I have tried to get a chapter going here with no interest and there is no chapter for me to join. What do I do? |
