my hubby bought me one of those! I love it, and even though its refurbished the company still gives great service if anything should go wrong, they pay for shipping to and from the factory if there is a problem..we did have a small problem with ours a couple months after we bought it and the factory paid for shipping from UPS..totally refurbished the unit with a new motor and sent extra hoses and all. very good customer service.
And my gracious..you will be surprised at how much dust it will draw up out of your carpets and off of your bare floors.Cheapo vacuum cleaners are no match that's for sure. With a hepa filter everytime I vacuum my house smells so fresh.(gosh I sound like a paid advertiser..ha) but I'll not go back to a cheapo vacuum cleaner again though.
It's well worth the money.

when you think of it, places like WM and KM want you to continue buying those cheap vacuum cleaners that wear down in a couple of months..that way in the long run they get more and more money from the consumer. By the time you get done buying 2-3 vacuum cleaners in a year or two, you could have bought yourself a high quality vacuum cleaner that will last you about 10 yrs or better.
We recently bought a toaster that is commercial grade..I would never have thought to pay $200 for a toaster, but..when my husband started explaining to me how the average consumer buys the cheapo $10 toaster at Walmart and then it burns out in about a month or two and you are having to buy toasters every year..why not get a toaster that has a lifetime warranty and a guarantee for replacement the entire time you own it, and you know you'll probably have a toaster for 10 yrs or better.
It makes sense. So, yes..I have a vacuum cleaner valued at $500 and a $200 toaster. but I'm not tossing $10 bills at WM every time I turn around either.
Food for thought: Buy Quality..not junk!

When I clicked your link, it lists it as "refurbished" and as being $399, not $299. I could find nothing about the $299 price?!

That didn't work either, but if you add it to the cart the sale price comes up.

I have had a Dyson for about two years and love it. Got a Rainbow for free from a Freecyler online and it picks up even more dust and dirt, but love them both. I've found the one thing that will clog a Dyson...foam packing peanuts! I think cause they're so lightweight and don't fall into the canister. I think the high cost (Rainbow's are about $2k) keep their rating by Consumer Reports low, but they both do a very good job. I haven't decided whether to get the attachements for the Rainbow and let the Dyson go live with one of my kids or to keep both. I did pay about $200 to have the Rainbow refurbished by the dealer and it's a recent model well worth keeping. Only Dyson that gets a poor rating is the handheld that Target sells-and I was thinking of getting one.
Vacuums are about the most common return item at mass merchandiser stores, when they get clogged and people bring them back. Like Tina said with the toasters and such, most are made to last a short time and be replaced.
Just my two cent's worth :)

that reminds me..I had one of those "Calvin and Hobbes" moments a while back with the Dyson..haha. I was dusting in the bathroom and accidentally got the hose and brush attachment too close to the toilet tissue..haha. It immediately started unrolling the tissue into the vacuum cleaner, meanwhile I'm going"oh no! oh no! Stop it! Stop it!"
LOL. I then had to unwind a bunch of toilet tissue out of the canister. LOL
Luckily no one saw my little mishap, but it was really funny.
