Elizabeth, you could try a steam treatment; boil a pan of water and set it on a heatpad on your table; take a large bath towel and drape it around your head and shoulders plus the bowl, try to keep the area completely enclosed by the towel.

With your face over the steaming water, just breathe in and out. Try to stay under as long as you can, and have a box of kleenex close at hand for when you come out...amazing how it will clear your congestion. Go back under the towel repeatedly until you feel like you've gotten as much congestion cleared as you can. Repeat throughout the day/night as needed.

Also, adding chamomile tea or other herbs to the water will be soothing, and I think some people will use salted water for their treatments. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

I like hot liquids (herbal tea with honey and lemon, and hot chicken broth are my favorites) and steam treatments for sure..I like to put chamomile flowers (dried) and ecalyptus essential oil in with the boiling water..helps alot and smells wonderful. I hope you feel better really soon!!!

A few drops of peppermint or Eucalyptus oil in hot steaming water can help with congestion if you do the towel method and breathe them. I use them during allergy attacks. But be careful, they are both strong oils!

I also recommend the steam treatment- it is also really good for your pores! I gargle with salt water whenever I am congested so the drainage doesn't start a tonsil/throat infection. I know that some people use saline nasal sprays but I personally can't handle nasal sprays. Also make sure you bulk up on Zinc and Vitamin C. Echanachea is also very good for the immune system.

I've never heard of that treatment, I'll have to check that out. What is a proadjuster chiropractor?

they don't do bending and cracking like most chiropractors. They use a machine that creates a light tapping motion and they place it on pressure and acupunture points to cause relief. I have been going abor four weeks now because of chronic headaches and neck pain. I haven't had a bad headache since I started therapy and I already have increased range of motion in my neck. She is also currently working to relieve my sinuses. I would highly recommend a pro adjuster chiropractor if you have one in your area.

When I'm really congested I'll take a hot shower. As my bathroom is small it gets steamy quickly and it seems to give some relief temporarily. Also I keep a jar of vapor rub handy to get a whiff of. That seems to help too.

I'm right there with you.

Our most recent hay shipment at work has had me stuffy for the past 2 evenings. Interesting to know, most of the critters are wasting it and not devouring it like they usually do. Pity we still have over 1/2 a semi tractor trailer left to go!

I'd suggest a food-elimination test for a few days or longer. Are you consuming milk, yogurt, cheese? Perhaps looking at foods/seasonings you've consumed recently & make a note to avoid certain known congestion-causing foods for a while to see if symptoms lessen. Sometimes wheat or gluten products can cause congestion as a by-product of overgrowth of yeast...most of the congestion we suffer from can ultimately be traced back to "gut" issues...candida overgrowth which is known as "candida-albicans" is very common today & can sometimes be attributed to highly processed foods or sugars in our diets. This overgrowth can also be present in the sinus passages, &can be responsible for many allergies.
Hope you feel better soon.
I agree with previous posts to try the steam for more immediate relief.
