I am so glad that I found this topic site. I have been a "farmgirl" for a few months now and truly love the support and encouragement from this group. My little boy has been sick again....kept him out of the hospital so far. They are talking about a psychiatric hospital for him to go to for a few days. :-( He is 7 years old and has mental/emotional problems..finally doubled his meds. He has been hurting himself deliberately...can't control impulses. It has been stressful to say the least. His dad is soon going to Afghanistan so that is something could be affecting Danny boy. We are divorced but still good friends. We aren't sure if Danny understands that yet. We adopted him from the County agency who said his mother and father both did drugs and he could be alcohol effected. I have been his mommy for a long time and I love him so much.

Oh Linda...I will sure keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. It is so hard to see someone you love hurting. Poor little guy! Alot of my children are adopted and they do come with baggage. He is so lucky to have you to care so very much about him. I wish I were there to hang out with you and give you a hug!! Hang in there!! (((((hugs))))))

Linda, your posts just breaks my heart, but at the same time it is good to know Danny is a loving home and you are going to do the best for him. I believe you and your family will get him through this. You'll be in my prayers too. XXXOOO

Poor little man. When they're little, it so difficult for them to communicate what they feel, or how they feel...and what with the emotional disorder, it's even worse for him. That he's come from so little to so much is a blessing, for sure, and with the help of these meds, he may be back on track again, soon.
I'll be thinking of you folks, for sure.

Praying for you. That you will find help with your local church as well - God is the only one who can truly heal these issues! Praying for that. And of course the upcoming deployment can be part of it. He's still Daddy to him and he's leaving, Danny may see it as being abandoned even though it isn't, that coupled with the divorce (even though amicable) is probably a large part of what's going on. Children don't always have the means to express their feelings even when they are from a "normal" background so this may be his way of dealing with the pain or expressing his feelings of worthlessness - face it everybody he's loved has left him - to his mind. Dear Lord, speak peace and healing to this home on all fronts.
Hugs & prayers,
Holly

Linda, What a beautiful person you are to have taken in a child with special needs, to love him so unconditionally and to devote yourself to him. So many people would have turned their backs and walked away. You are a true gem. I will warp, you, your son & ex, in prayers for continued love, strenght & blessings. farmgirl hugz,

Linda, I'm sorry your Danny has to go through this. I hope he gets through this difficult patch without a stay in the hospital. My parents are raising a little boy whose mother is a crack addict. He has some emotional and behavioral problems, but not as serious as what you describe with Danny. It's so unfair that innocent kids have to suffer for their parents' drug use. Here's hoping you both have a safe and peaceful holiday. |

Linda I'm so sorry! This is no easy road your on.You have already made a difference for Danny by loving him - God honors that kind of love by pouring his mercy and grace over you & Danny. However things go, God will give you the ability to keep on truckin, if you're looking to Him for your help. He's not far from any one of us- just bear your heart to Him. You are loved here as well. Blessings Autumn

Thanks everyone for your prayers and encouragement. Danny is getting a little better but even after a large increase in meds he still had a couple episodes yesterday. I am learning that meds are not a total answer all the time. My plan is to get him into sensory therapy asap. Trying to work with the medical "system" can be so frustrating, as I am sure some of you know. I have learned to just "keep on keeping on"... or like we said in the 70s "keep on truckin'." There are places to go to get help and I just have to keep researching. Your words of encouragement and especially the prayers make all the difference! I knew I could count on my farmgirls!

Linda, This must be heartbreaking for you, watching your little boy go through the agony of these episodes. Don't be scared if he has to go into the hospital for a few days. They really can do wonders for many disorders these days. I know no one likes to have to take meds if they can avoid it. But, Linda sometimes they are the answer. I have seen this in my own family many times. In the hospital they can monitor the situation a lot closer and have much more intensive therapy. Your love and support of your son will help him beyond words. He does have special needs and when they are of this magnitude Dr.'s and nurses and meds can truly be a blessing. With these types of meds sometimes you have to try quite a few before you get the right one or ones. The love you have and the determination to help him have the best life possible are going to be so important. God will help you and give you strength and knowledge to make the right decisions and choices for him. Happy Thanksiving and God Bless you both.

Linda, this is one lucky little boy because he has you for a Mom. God bless you for doing all you are doing and don't forget "nothing we do for a child is ever wasted". He will respond to all that love. Just wait and see.

Posted - Nov 25 2007 : 04:57:36 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Danny is still having problems, but not as severe. My plan is to get him into sensory therapy like he had years ago. And also to a specialist for neuroligical disorders. I have some avenues to go and he is a little better. I am determined to have a real Christmas!
