| Hello, I was born and raised on a Mennonite farm in south east South Dakota. Life has taken me from the farm but not my heart or what I had learned from my mother and grandmothers. Because of their teachings, my life has been blessed by their teaching me the art of quilting and cooking. For the past 14 years I have built a small business from my home, along with other Mennonite and Amish women who design, peice and hand quilt for others who do not quilt or for others who peice quilt tops but need their quilt tops finished. Even tho I am alone, I still enjoy cooking and canning for myself and friends. Friends have enjoyed my cooking so much that I have catered many affairs for them. I am a farm girl at heart and have enjoyed Mary Janes books and website. I would enjoy hearing from others who also feel the same. |

Welcome.
I do not have a farm, nor was I raised on a farm. But I love the ways of the farm. My mother always told me as a child I was born in the wrong time & now my husband says so as well. I welcome you to Maryjane's

Welcome. I wish we lived closer because I am sure we could really be friends! My husband told me the other day that I should have married an Amish man because they could do all the things that I expected him to do. He fills the bill though just fine, he can do anything and usually does anything that I ask of him. The only problem is that I won't let him get one project finished before I give him another one. LOL
Look forward to learning from you, Farm Girl Hugs, Becky

Hello Ruby, and welcome to the "farm". I used to live in a Mennonite/Amish community in Sarasota, FL back when I was teen.(although I am not/nor was the family that I boarded with Mennonite or Amish/they had been Mennonite at one time though and still did a few of the things from the Mennonite upbringing)anyhow.. the community is known as Pinecraft Subdivision there in Sarasota, FL.(right off of Bahia Vista Avenue) Many Amish/Mennonite resturaunts..with fabulous cooking there. In fact my favorite place for breakfast or a slice of delish strawberry pie was Yoder's Family resturaunt. :0)...and if ever any of my farmgirl friends happen to visit Sarasota, FL..I thoroughly encourage a visit to Yoder's Resuraunt..you won't be disappointed! The citizens in the community were always very friendly and offered up a smile..and everyone had a garden..either on the side of the house, or in their backyard....and mint tea was quite the staple in the summertime..put into rinsed coca cola bottles for the kids in the summertime. The mint was always grown right by the back door to the kitchen. Anyhow..long way of saying"howdy" and welcome aboard. Glad you have joined in.

Hello Ruby and welcome. Hope you enjoy getting to know the farmgirls here. I was not raised on a farm but lived in a farming community in upstate NY. We now reside in NJ. Are you still part of the Mennonite community? We have visited the local Mennonite church here several times. One of the families has a restaurant at the indoor farm market here and my son works there for them. The church is part of the Eastern Conference. Anyway, happy to have you join us and can't wait to take a look at your website.

Yes, I am very much a part of my Mennonite Community. I hold all that very dear to my heart. Being a Mennonite is more a way of life than a religion to me. I feel very blessed. It is so very nice to visit with all of you and look forward to many new friendships.
God Bless Always, Ruby www.homemadestitches.com |

Hi Ruby and welcome! You're not alone anymore! I've been studying the Amish and Mennonite ways and collecting cookbooks. I have a great admiration for your way of life. Is the photo on the website one of you? This is the perfect place for you to find friends. We are all pretty much of like mind.
Again, welcome.

Dear Ruby - I emailed you with a request to finish the last quilt my grandmother pieced, and which I began quilting but have never finished. I want to send it to you for the service you provide. Look forward to hearing from you! I emailed you from my church computer, so if you have any difficulty replying, perhaps you can email me through this MJF site. Thank you!
Loved your patterns, and your quilts. Jeannie
