My Grand daughter wants to ask a couple questions. She was wondering how long her chickens are going to be molting for? She used to get 15 a day but now she only gets 5 a day.And she wanted to now when guina hens start laying?
Thank you so much!

Faith, are the chickens in a true moult (losing feathers?) or have they just slowed down on their laying? You may want to up their protein. How old are the hens?

As for the guineas, again, how old are they? Our guinea hens over a year old will lay 2-3 clutches a year. Usually they make a nest in a well foliaged area (in the tall weeds).

Hi Faith, and Justice, I can't tell you atime line, but my girls laid well for a year and a half, and are now taking some down time. Some are molting, and who knows what else. I figure, that they laid well for so long, a break is good. They should get going again pretty soon. Hope they start laying better.
