| I guess it depends on what breed, how old they are. I assume these are some kind of dairy goat? Can she provide any information on how well they produce? |

We are getting meat and dairy goats. One is a Lamancha one is an Alpine and the others are Nubian crosses. They are coming from two different breeders. The Nubians she is selling tome for $75 each and the Lamancha and Alpine she is letting go for $150 each, the Lamancha is due to kid n February and she wants the kid back and will be breeding the Alpine for me to keep the kid. DOes giving the kid back sound fair? I am new to it, so I am unsure.

| I would say the prices are pretty reasonable, then. I have never heard of anyone requesting the kid back. I thought goats gestational period was 4 months, so it being due in February seems a little strange. Even so, she wouldn't know for sure that it was pregnant this early, plus anything could happen between then and now. Especially since it would kid in the winter, if you weren't there and it got cold and died, or just if something was wrong with it and it died. Would she hold you responsible? |

We paid $50 for boer nannies. We borrowed a buck and one nanny was bred Paul decided he doesn't care for goats (he keeps having to fix the fence!) We've sold the nannies for $50 to friends of ours. They haven't picked them up yet, but when they do, they'll take the little buckling until he's weaned, then we're getting him back for freezer camp

Small Town Living that Tina Michelle does had a few articles on goats in one of the issues....you might find that interesting reading.
I'm also thinking of getting a couple of milking goats. But I want to read and talk to all the people I can who have had hands on
experience with them so I kind of know ahead of time what kind of time and care they need before I plunge into it. Sounds like

Seems a little much if they want the kids back (more than likely will be twins) YOu can buy papered goats for that much. Have you checked them over really well??? Get a good goat book..it will have a check list (I like "Raising Milk Goats the Modern Way") and really look at the goats. Why are they selling them? How old are they? All the breeds you named are Dairy breeds. BUT...you can eat any goats I suppose. Boers are usually the most common meat breed. I would be sure to ask what breed the Alpine is being bred to, too. Alpines are ALOT smaller than Nubians..if you are using them for meat.
